Job description
SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.
LAB SPECIALIST, SEMICONDUCTOR METROLOGY (STARLINK) - 1ST SHIFT
One of the most ambitious missions that SpaceX has undertaken to date, the Starlink satellite constellation is our solution to providing high-speed, low-latency, reliable internet to the entire world. Starlink is taking the next step in vertical integration by bringing advanced silicon packaging and assembly in-house for development and manufacturing. In this role you will work closely with IC packaging engineers, test engineers, equipment manufacturers, and operations leadership to ensure the hardware we produce is of the highest quality standards.
As a Semiconductor Metrology Lab Specialist, you will be working in a brand-new production facility and test lab supporting semiconductor packaging manufacturing. This is a versatile and highly skilled, hands-on role that will involve precision metrology and component microsection sample preparation and analysis. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a lab setting within a microelectronics manufacturing environment and is motivated by Starlink’s mission to provide high-speed, low-latency connectivity across the globe.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Execute inspections and analysis of semiconductor hardware to help verify product quality and identify issues or abnormalities
- Work closely with engineers and production technicians to use metrology tools to root cause issues found on the production line and perform failure analysis for production and development hardware
- Operate, inspect, and maintain metrology equipment for engineering and production sample testing, including cross-section equipment, polishers, microscopes, SEM, CSAM, XRAY, CT, XRF and others
- Identify, document, and escalate occurrences of non-conformance or process deviation
- Participate in Full Product Life Cycle Management process by performing pre-product launch characterization/validation and reliability studies, failure analysis, post-product ongoing reliability testing, and statistical process control monitoring
- Partner with engineering and management teams to formalize work instructions, document procedures, and provide on the job training to process technicians
- Develop and maintain 5S standards for a safe, clean, and organized work area
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate
- 3+ years of professional experience in a hands-on microelectronics manufacturing or laboratory environment; or bachelor's degree in an engineering, math or science discipline
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering, math, or science discipline
- 5+ years of microelectronics experience in a high volume or laboratory setting
- Experience with some of the following analysis techniques and equipment (not all required)
- Mechanical cross-section and polish, scanning acoustic microscopy (CSAM), lateral shear & pull test, x-ray, CT scan, x-ray fluorescence (XRF), scanning electron microscopy (SEM + EDS), fourier transform infrared (FTIR), and others
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to work all shifts, overtime and/or weekends as needed. Estimated shift time: 1st shift: 5:00 AM – 3:30 PM
