Job description
As the Avionics Manufacturing Manager at Impulse, you will hire, manage, and mentor avionics manufacturing engineers and technicians to support hardware builds for Impulse’s vehicles. You will guide engineers and technicians to establish process requirements, manage daily work scope, set up work cells, and manage a high volume of work. You will support activities ranging from soldering, harnessing, polymerics, PCB assembly, component and vehicle-level installations, and functional and environmental testing. You will work directly with leaders and individual contributors in avionics, software, GNC, propulsion, structures, and other disciplines. You will have the opportunity to contribute to all aspects of spacecraft electronics development.
Responsibilities
- Hire and mentor avionics manufacturing engineers and avionics technicians
- Lead qual & test efforts for new coatings, potting compounds, adhesives, and other materials
- Collaborate with electrical design engineers and quality teams to ensure manufacturability, DFM/DFA compliance, and long-term reliability
- Set daily and weekly production targets, backed by performance metrics
- Provide day-to-day support for the production floor, resolving build issues, updating work instructions, and improving yields
- Develop, document, and optimize manufacturing processes for avionics hardware, including PCB assembly, soldering, staking, coating, and connector installation
- Establish and maintain high technical standards through specifications and training
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years professional experience manufacturing avionics hardware for spacecraft or other vehicles
- Professional experience managing and growing a team
- Experience troubleshooting electronics problems at the board level or system level
- Ability to communicate technical challenges, explain rationale and/or resolve concerns
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience managing both exempt and non-exempt employees
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years' of demonstrated experience manufacturing and/or designing avionics hardware for space environments beyond LEO
- Demonstrated experience with new development work for any of the following: optics, star trackers, cameras, motors, reaction wheels, batteries, harnessing, ethernet switches, FPGAs, antennas, or any other specialized area relevant to spacecraft or rockets
- Desire to improve team processes and train other team members
- Experience in a startup or agile development environment

Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
