Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking to hire a Sr. Principal Systems Engineer to join its team of diverse and qualified individuals on the Nuclear Surety team. This position is in Roy, UT and will support the Sentinel program. Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force’s sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities and associated infrastructure.
What you will get to do:
Northrop Grumman is looking for a talented system engineer to pioneer how to safely design and operate the next generation ICBM weapon system. A Nuclear Surety engineer has the opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a system designed to provide another 50 years of safety and security for this great nation. Nuclear Surety ensures that nuclear weapons are always protected against peacetime and wartime threats. A Nuclear Surety Engineer at Northrop Grumman on the GBSD program will be provided the opportunity to:
- Perform decomposition of Department of Defense safety manuals into requirements and allocating them to design teams for implementation
- Provide systems engineering expertise to the design, integration, and testing of a next generation ICBM weapon system
- Participate in technical planning, system integration, verification, validation, cost, risk, supportability, and analysis for mechanical, electrical, and integrated systems
- Evaluate the physical security design based on the Department of Defense Safety manuals
- Interface directly with various compartments of the Department of Defense and Department of Energy to ensure safe design and operation of nuclear weapon systems
- Use model-based engineering tools on a major weapon system to pioneer a new way to evaluate and analyze modern design
- Learn a niche discipline that spans all aspects of Nuclear Power and Munitions
This position is contingent upon program award anticipated in the third quarter of 2025.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 8 years of related experience, or a master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 6 years of related experience or PhD and 4 years’ experience.
- Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance (investigated within last 6 years) at time of application, current and within scope, with an ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company.
- 1 year of prior program milestone execution experience, including but not limited to Systems Requirements Review, System Functional Review, Preliminary Design Review.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical, electronic or software engineering discipline
- Active DOD Top Secret Clearance • Experience with electrical or software analyses/test; verification of requirements
- Experience with any of the following tools and languages: DOORs, Cameo, TeamCenter, GIT, JAZZ, NX, Capitol
- Experience with programmable logic devices, i.e. FPGAs, ASICs
- Experience working with Nuclear Surety Requirements and the Nuclear Certification process (e.g. AFI 63-125, AFMAN 91-118, AFMAN 91-119, AFI 91-101, DODM 5210.41)
- Prior experience and working knowledge of the Sentinel program
- Holding current INCOSE AESP or CESP certifications
