The Northrop Grumman Microelectronics Center (NGMC) of Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking an EHS Engineer to join our Environmental, Health, Safety, and Fire Protection team at the Advanced Technology Laboratories (ATL) site in Linthicum, Maryland. The selected applicant will be responsible for successfully implementing and maintaining all safety related programs and supporting occupational health and environmental programs. The candidate must be a strong team participant, have excellent communication skills, and be resourceful.

ATL designs, manufactures, and tests semiconductor products for internal and commercial production customers as well as emerging technology programs. Northrop Grumman's ATL semiconductor foundry is a unique capability supporting a range of production microelectronic devices (Silicon, Gallium Arsenide, Gallium Nitride, and Silicon Carbide) and providing leading-edge technology development in Superconducting Electronics and SLCFET. Our devices enable a number of Northrop Grumman's ground-based radars, avionic radars, and space systems. 

Key roles and responsibilities include:

  • Reviews and interprets existing and proposed environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations to determine applicability and impact for site. 

  • Develops, implements, and maintains safety programs to ensure compliance, injury prevention, and risk mitigation.

  • Conducts job hazard assessments and recommends appropriate hazard control approaches.

  • Completes industrial and office ergonomic evaluations to reduce risk factors that cause musculoskeletal disorders.

  • Oversees the occupational safety programs, including but not limited to electrical, lockout-tagout, material handling, contractor safety, confined space, fall protection, crane, powered industrial equipment, and automation and robotics.

  • Leads the safety observers’ program.

  • Conducts near miss and incident investigations and partners with stakeholders to identify and implement corrective/preventive actions.

  • Participates in regulatory agency and internal inspections and implements actions necessary to meet regulatory requirements. 

  • Collaborates with site leadership and functional organizations to continuously improve the culture, awareness and accountability in support of EHS programs.

  • Partners with engineers, scientists, and management to support the integration of EHS into the design of new or altered processes and operations and building construction projects. 

  • Reviews and approves new tool installation and construction plans for EHS aspects

  • Performs in-person and develops online EHS training for employees and management focused on EHS programs.

  • Supports the site’s environmental, occupational health, and fire protection programs.

  • Provides timely and accurate submission of necessary reports to the company and regulatory agencies.

  • Writes and updates EHS plans and procedures.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 5 years of experience in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, or related experience; or a Master’s Degree with 3 years of experience in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, or related experience.

  • Experience with managing various EHS compliance programs based on the review and interpretation of EHS regulations.

  • Experience in conducting incident investigations and EHS training.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance

  • (U.S. Citizenship required). 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety or industrial hygiene.

  • Experience and knowledge with supporting EHS programs for semiconductor operations.

  • Experience with managing electrical safety, material handling, fall protection, confined space, ergonomics, and overseeing contractor safety programs.

  • Experience in interacting with a union labor workforce.

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)

Salary Range: $95,800.00 - $143,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
