DATA CENTER TECHNICIAN (LAUNCH)

Join SpaceX's IT Launch team as a Data Center Technician, where you'll play a critical role in building and maintaining multiple data centers. As a key member of our team, you'll deploy and maintain the infrastructure that powers our mission-critical systems, including servers, networks, HVAC and power systems. The ideal candidate has experience working with various types of hardware architectures and understands the strengths of each. Additional responsibilities include performance-tuning and quality assurance of critical infrastructure components to ensure the optimal level of data quality, availability, and security across the enterprise. With a focus on collaboration and innovation, you'll work closely with stakeholders to develop and implement strategic plans that support the company's ambitious goals and rapid growth.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor and resolve networking, compute and rack power distribution infrastructure incidents in multiple data centers.
  • Manage complete lifecycle for data center hardware including selection, deployment, operation, maintenance and decommission.
  • Physically rack and cable data center equipment.
  • Track and logically organize the physical storage of incoming data center equipment.
  • Perform quality assurance testing and resolve recurring issues.
  • Establish, schedule and track preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Update documentation, including interconnect drawings, rack layouts and operational procedures.
  • Monitor the environmental conditions and power/cooling systems of a data center to ensure they are optimized for servers, switches, storage arrays, and other devices.
  • Maintain in-depth quantitative performance and utilization data for detailed reporting and analytics to drive continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Work with the supply chain team and vendors to evaluate, procure and manage inventory of data center equipment.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline and 1+ year of data center experience; OR 3+ years of data center experience in lieu of a degree. 
  • Professional experience working in a data center environment or with enterprise-grade IT hardware.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Certifications related to IT infrastructure such as CompTIA Server+, CompTIA Network+, CCNA and CDCMP.
  • Experience with data center infrastructure management (DCIM) including tools to monitor, measure, manage, and/or control data center utilization.
  • In-depth knowledge of data center environments, servers, and network equipment.
  • Extensive experience installing, monitoring, and maintaining data center equipment.
  • Linux and Windows OS system administration experience.
  • Power and data center cooling capacity planning experience.
  • Proficiency in scripting (Bash/Powershell/Python) and IaC frameworks (e.g. Terraform, Ansible, Puppet)
  • Experience with virtualization platforms.
  • Exceptional analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience working with multiple vendor hardware architectures.
  • Experience working with server management tools such as HPE iLO, Cisco CIMC and Dell iDRAC.
  • Willingness and ability to respond to incidents after hours.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
  • Willing to participate in after-hours on-call rotation.
  • Willing to travel to other sites for surge support and systems familiarization.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
