Job description
ReOrbit is looking for a motivated Head of Software Engineering, SW Architect, to join the team at our HQ in Helsinki, Finland or London, UK. We are looking for an experienced SW architect level engineer who is proactive and confident with strong communication and people leadership skills. This is a pivotal role as you will oversee the entire software development lifecycle (including design, development, integration, and maintenance) of software components along with support of system integration and test for all projects across the company.
As the Head of Software Engineering, you will provide strategic vision, inspiration as well as lead and grow the software team. You will be responsible for the satellite end to end software including the Dynamic Satellite Simulator overview for our new project, as well as supporting other projects across the company. The focus will be assuring the SW architecture does not deviate from platform to platform. This is an exciting opportunity to join a project with major industry players, and pushing the boundaries of existing space data technology.
Responsibilities
- Software requirements specification definition
- Software V&V documentation management
- Flight software design definition, including:
- Functionalities definition
- Architecture definition (based on the actual ReOrbit philosophy)
- Core Executive Services definition and implementation.
- Apps definition and implementation
- Functional ICDs
- User manuals
- Interface with HW design team
- Make sure low-level SW (Embedded) and low-level communication protocols are implementable within the frame of the flight software
- Budget of telemetries and commands and timing requirements.
- Test plan and reports definition
- Dynamic Satellite Simulator overview and design definition
Skills and Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years working within satellite flight software engineering or similar areas within the space industry (excluding nanosats or microsats)
- Knowledge and professional experience of the full lifecycle of satellite systems.
- Strong communication and people leadership skills, including ability to work collaboratively and lead a multi-cultural team
- Solid technical knowledge on
- Linux, Visual Studio Code, and NASA Core Flight System
- Real Time Operative Systems (preferred RTEMS or VxWorks)
- Robot Framework, Rubys
- Specification and acceptance of Dynamic Satellite Simulators
- Enterprise Architect software
- Strong experience and ability to take on (technical) leadership role
- High level system software design capability
- Knowledge on bridging the gap between software and hardware engineering.
- Knowledge of applicable CCSDS norms and recommendations related to SW
- Capability on lean design and development techniques.
- Knowledge on agile tools (preferred Jira)
- Ability to analyze data, derive conclusions, and manage design documentation as well as review and approve design changes
- Knowledge of software project management
- Fluent written and spoken skills in English

Location of the role
- This role can be based either at our HQ in Helsinki, Finland or London, UK. We support relocation to Helsinki, and integration into Finnish society, find some experiences about relocation here. If your preferred home base would be UK, we expect you to have a right to work in the UK as well as willingness to travel to Helsinki on a frequent basis.
