Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.Northrop Grumman, Space Systems, is currently seeking a Principal Test Engineer /Sr. Principal Test Engineer to join our team. This position will provide weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) structural hydro-testing support in our Test and Research Operations Value Stream team at the Clearfield and Copper Crossing (Salt Lake City), Utah sites.

Role Description:
As a Principal / Sr. Principal Test Engineer, develop structural and dynamic hydro test processes for rocket motor cases using customer specifications, engineering drawings, test plans and other documentation as applicable.
The selected person in this role would work into a test conductor role upon proper training and experience. The test preparation process includes review of requirements, development and coordination of safety protocols, design and integration of support equipment, and documenting the test process. The test engineer is responsible for the selection and integration of test instrumentation and data acquisition systems, training test technicians, training and supporting other test engineers, troubleshooting test anomalies, and review of test data. Test engineers work closely with the Safety and Hazards Analysis departments and support cross functional teams in designing and setting up the hydro test processes. Test engineers must have demonstrated ability to manage complex test projects and be non-compromising with regards to safety even when working under pressure. Test engineers must be comfortable presenting technical data to internal/external customers, suppliers, and vendors. Test engineers spend time in test facilities (including at offsite customers) developing solutions to a variety of complex testing challenges.
This position can be filled at either a level 03 or level 04.
Basic Qualifications for a level 03:
Education/Certifications
B.S. degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Electrical engineering discipline.
Minimum 5 years applicable experience.
Experience Requirements:
Must be able to qualify for an Alcohol Tobacco and Firearm (ATF) “Explosives Possessor” designation.
Must be able to qualify for a Department of Defense security clearance.
Must be disciplined to follow detailed instructions and comply with procedures.
Excellent written and oral communication skills to create clear and understandable planning for operators.
Detail oriented but able to understand the big picture.
Have a working knowledge of test instrumentation and data systems.
Experience Preferred:
Prior experience supporting structural hydro-testing Operations.
Ability to create/modify simple sketches in CAD or related software for planning sketches.
Department of Defense security clearance.
