Job Overview & Responsibilities

The Launch Systems Maintenance RS 1 Engineering position is a member of the Operations Systems Engineering team supporting Atlas V, Vulcan, and ICPS rockets at East & West Coast Launch Sites. Responsibilities include:

  • Develops, executes, and maintains an In-Service Inspection Plan for hazardous pressure vessels in Pneumatic, Cryogenic and Hydraulic systems.
  • Working with design system requirements and Space Force Range requirements, identifies required component / subsystem maintenance.
  • Develops maintenance procedures, tracks component maintenance intervals, and conducts system testing of the ground propulsion and mechanical systems.
  • Must be able to analyze test data including off-nominal data for accuracy.
  • Our team performs troubleshooting of ground systems when anomalies occur. Some testing may involve hazardous system operations, including Propulsion fluids systems (cryogenic, non-cryogenic, hydraulics and pneumatics) and Ground Support Equipment (GSE) lifting operations.
  • Our team supports launch day final launch pad preparations and post-launch securing operations.
  • This position involves mixed working environments including; office work, writing and reviewing work authorization documents; field and console operations, executing test procedures and maintaining ground and systems.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field from an accredited college or university.
  • Demonstrated initiative, troubleshooting, problem-solving, coordination, and presentation skills.
  • Familiarity with fluid systems.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Must be available for periodic travel to the other ULA sites.
  • Ability to work at elevated heights and small spaces.
  • This position will require working extended hours, weekends, and 2nd or 3rd shifts as necessary to support vehicle processing and launch.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong team and project leadership with integration skills.
  • Previous internship or work experience with a Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering company.
  • Demonstrated experience technically leading teams.
  • Proficient with propellant systems component assembly and testing.
  • Experience with Engineering Drawings and schematics a plus.
  • Experience working with manufacturers and contractors of hydraulic and propellant systems.
  • Experience with trouble shooting system and component failures for quick resolution.
