Job description
As a Business Development Manager at Impulse, you will be responsible for identifying, pursuing, and securing opportunities in the national security sectors for space launch and related services. You will work closely with internal teams, including Business Development, Mission Management, Engineering, and Operations, to align customer requirements with company capabilities. This role requires a strong understanding of government contracting, procurement processes, and mission needs within the defense and intelligence communities.
This position demands a proactive, customer-focused professional with experience in business development, program management, or sales in the space industry. The ideal candidate will have experience engaging with U.S. government agencies, including the Department of Defense (DoD). Some travel will be required to meet with customers, attend industry events, and support proposal efforts.
Responsibilities
- Identify and develop new business opportunities in the U.S. government sector for national security launch
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in DoD organizations
- Lead the capture process for government contracts, including proposal development, teaming arrangements, and competitive analysis
- Work closely with engineering and mission management teams to translate customer requirements into viable solutions
- Manage the business pipeline for national security launch programs
- Develop and present briefings, white papers, and technical solutions to government customers and industry partners
- Collaborate with regulatory and compliance teams to ensure adherence to government acquisition policies
- Represent the company at industry conferences, trade shows, and government meetings
- Support pricing strategy, contract negotiations, and bid processes for government business
- Occasionally travel to support customer engagements (less than 25% travel)
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelorโs degree in business, engineering, or a related technical field
- 5+ years of experience in business development, sales, or program management within the space or defense sector
- Demonstrated experience securing government contracts, working with DoD, intelligence, or civil space agencies
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage high-level stakeholders
- Ability to manage multiple business opportunities simultaneously while meeting deadlines
Preferred Skills and Experience
- 8+ years of experience in government business development in the space industry
- Active security clearance or ability to quickly obtain/reinstate clearance
- Experience working with launch service providers, satellite integrators, or space mission customers
- Strong understanding of U.S. government acquisition processes, including FAR/DFARS regulations
- Strong network within the national security space community
- Familiarity with classified program requirements and operations
- Technical background in aerospace, launch systems, or satellite technology
- Experience in a startup or fast-paced, high-growth environment

Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
