Job description
Axiom Space is building for beyond, guided by the vision of a thriving home in space that benefits every human, everywhere. We foster a diverse environment inclusive of all perspectives. We are the pioneers of commercial space, leading the transformation of low-Earth orbit into a global space marketplace. Our mission-driven team is seeking a bold and dynamic person who is fueled by problem-solving, continuously curious, and driven to understand our world, science/technology, and life itself, for the benefit of all on Earth and beyond.
We are looking for an experienced Senior Firmware Engineer. This role offers the opportunity to work on mission-critical systems, developing embedded firmware for aerospace applications such as spacecraft systems and avionics platforms. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, software engineers, and system architects, to design, implement, and test robust and high-performance embedded solutions.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Firmware Development: Design, develop, and optimize embedded firmware for aerospace systems, including microcontrollers, FPGAs, and custom ASICs
System Design: Collaborate with hardware and systems engineers to define firmware requirements, interface specifications, and design strategies for complex space systems
Low-Level Programming: Write low-level drivers, bootloaders, and communication protocols (e.g., I2C, SPI, UART) for embedded systems
Testing & Validation: Develop and execute rigorous test plans for firmware validation and hardware-in-the-loop testing. Ensure firmware meets performance, reliability, and safety standards
Debugging & Troubleshooting: Use debugging tools (e.g., JTAG, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers) to troubleshoot, identify, and resolve firmware issues in the lab and during flight testing
Compliance & Standards: Ensure all firmware development is compliant with industry standards such as DO-178C, RTCA/DO-254, and other aerospace certification guidelines
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with electrical, mechanical, and software engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of firmware into complex aerospace systems
Continuous Improvement: Stay current with the latest developments in embedded systems, microcontrollers, and aerospace technology to drive innovation and best practices in firmware development
