Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking an experienced Principal Supplier Quality Engineer to join our Supplier Quality Field Engineering team located in San Diego, California. This team supports programs with suppliers across the United States and Internationally.

This position works a 9/80 schedule and will travel an estimated 75%.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate in a team environment, negotiate and integrate different viewpoints, prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish the project results.
  • Represent the company with credibility, confidence and professionalism.
  • Perform Specification Compliance Reviews, First Article Inspections and Source inspections on electrical hardware focused on RF Microwave and MIMIC technologies, but additionally mechanical, PWBs, CCAs, and cables and connectors, may be required.
  • Understands continuous process improvement (CI) and can effectively develop and execute CI initiatives and activities.
  • Initiate Corrective Action Plans and work with suppliers, manufacturing and engineering personnel to identify root cause and ensure robust corrective actions are implemented.
  • Analyze and interpret data to identify suppliers’ process issues and developing solutions
  • Perform process and product audits along with capacity assessments to ensure the supplier's processes are robust and capable, as well as compliant to Military and Space requirements.
  • Effectively perform supplier surveillance activities designed to manage and improve supplier performance, productivity, and process validation.
  • Apply technologies, scientific principles, theories and concepts to analyze and audit our suppliers’ processes and capabilities.
  • Capable of leading cross-functional teams in pursuit of performance improvements aligned to department and organizational goals
  • Mitigate supplier quality risk to prevent/minimize business impact from supplied material defects
  • Proactive reduction and prevention of supplied material defect occurrences and verification of supplied material defect claims
  • Lead on-site supplier engagements, including performance reviews and Quality System audits
  • Be able to analyze and present data to all levels of leadership
  • Strong communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Understands general contracting principles in a Department of Defense and commercial environment
  • Establish positive working relationships with suppliers and internal teams
  • Develop and mentor new engineer

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM or a related technical discipline.
  • 5 years relevant experience in Quality, Manufacturing or Design engineering and/or 5+ years of experience in Continuous Improvement.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance. US Citizenship required.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 or AS9100 requirements
  • Must be able to travel up to 75% of the Time
  • Experience in root cause analysis and corrective action
  • Demonstrate skill to lead teams and projects
  • Must be able to obtain a DOD Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or other Engineering discipline.
  • 10+ years working in the defense industry.
  • Process knowledge/manufacturing engineering experience in the electrical, electromechanical field.
  • Six Sigma or Lean certifications.
  • Experience in auditing to ISO 9001 and AS9100, AS9102 requirements.
  • Certification in J-STD-001, IPC-A-600, IPC-A-610, and Mil-Std-883 is a plus.
  • Training in GD&T (ANSI Y14.5M)
  • ASQ Lead Auditor, CQE, CQM Certification
  • Possess current DOD Secret Clearance.

Salary Range: $100,300.00 - $150,500.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
