Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Manager – Mechanical Systems 2, to join and support our Remote Sensing Program (RSP) Business Unit in Linthicum, MD.
The ideal candidate will manage a Group of Mechanical System engineers within the Hardware Engineering organization. Emphasis is placed on leading a team of 12 – 16 Mechanical Engineers that supports design, development, fabrication, and test of multiple space programs sensor hardware. The group is involved with proposals of new space sensors designs and development of sub-assemblies for payload sensors that comply with a multitude of customer mechanical requirements. Basically, the engineers in the group work includes full life-cycle program involvement. It includes electro-mechanical design, development, system integration, hands on test, training, and production of Space payloads. A candidate applying to the position would benefit from having past full product life-cycle experience. A candidate applying would also benefit from having past experience in designing electromechanical devices as well as electronic packaging of RF and E/O space sensors. This position will report to the department manager of the Mechanical Systems Technology department within Hardware Engineering. Minimal travel is expected.
Roles and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Technical leadership on a piece of a larger program
General team supervision, performance management, career development, staffing, merit planning, engagement, employee rewards and recognition, and resolving personnel issues.
Provide project and technical oversight for electro-mechanical sub system design and fabrication follow activities performed by the group.
Strategic hiring and employee skills development, labor forecasting and execution through close collaboration with program management, and balancing employee needs with business goals
Manpower and resource assignment
Technical risk assessment and mitigation as pertains to mechanical development of space sensors
Facilitate knowledge sharing and mentoring.
Knowledge of design tools, processes, and technologies needed to support strategic space product plans and sensor development.
Maintain and ensure application of design processes and guidelines used by the department.
Develop proposal inputs and review proposal content for both internal and external customers.
Lead or support department initiatives, recruiting, technology roadmap creation, cross-campus/sector involvement, and NCTA project leadership.
This is an on-site role, no remote option is available
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline plus 8 years of engineering experience or Master of Science Degree in a STEM discipline plus 6 years of engineering experience or Ph.D. in a STEM discipline with 3 years of engineering experience
Excellent verbal, organizational, and written communication skills are required.
Experience with mechanical design and analysis tools
Technical or Integrated Product Team (IPT) Team Leadership skills
No clearance required to start but must be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance with Poly.
U.S. Citizenship is required
Preferred Qualifications:
Active TS/SCI clearance with Poly
6 years of mechanical design and mechanical systems engineering experience
Demonstrated technical leadership of mechanical design teams.
Ability to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams.
Able to work in a fast-paced environment where multiple projects are being developed and deployed simultaneously.
Experience with program management, functional management, and/or customer management
