An organization within Northrop Grumman’s Payload and Ground Systems (PGS) division, Mission Enabling Products is a leading designer, producer, and supplier of spacecraft components that power and enable satellites of all classes. Products include spacecraft panels, bus structures, precision optical structures, deployable structural systems and mechanisms, solar arrays, and antenna reflectors. Our products are on virtually every U.S. satellite built in the last 20 years.

We are seeking a Staff Test Engineer for our Deployables Operating Unit located in our Oxnard, CA facility.

Overview

Reporting to the Test Engineering Manager, the Principal Test Engineer will be responsible for creating and implementing test plans, test requirements, test tooling, test setup and execution procedures, as well as performing post-test data processing and reporting to ensure product contractual and derived requirements. The qualified candidate will have ownership of their work through all phases of product development, production, testing, and integration supporting internal and external teams as required.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Leadership of product testing, working in close collaboration with all parts of the Operating Unit for the design, development, planning & writing of test plans, test requirements, and test setup & execution procedures.

  • Leadership of test tooling, software, and instrumentation design, development, and selection.

  • Support test data collection, post-test data review, reporting, and test requirements verification.

  • Technical writing to produce test documentation.

  • Lead, participate, and present in internal and external (customer) reviews.

  • Leverage modern tools and methods to reduce cost and schedule of product testing.

  • Accountable for management and tracking of multiple priorities while maintaining a focus towards common project goals of the program team, matrix organization, and customers.

  • Accountable to the Operating Unit Test Engineering Manager for meeting the Test Engineering safety, quality, delivery and cost expectations of internal and external customers within entire product value streams.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or STEM related field with 14+ years of experience in testing, systems engineering, mechanical design, or other applicable experience; OR 12+ years experience with a Master's degree; OR 9+ years experience with a PhD

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills with hands-on project experience

  • Excellent communication skills – presentation, oral, written, and listening

  • Self-motivated with the ability to organize and prioritize job assignments and tasks

  • Ability to work independently as well as in an integrated team and adapt to change and dynamic requirements

  • Demonstrated technical writing and/or procedure development skills

  • Advanced mechanical computer aided design (CAD) software skills

  • Ability to travel between the Oxnard, CA and Goleta, CA sites and travel to support customers

  • US Citizenship is a bona fide requirement

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years test engineering experience in the aerospace/aeronautics industry

  • Demonstrated proficiency in test automation software (i.e., LabVIEW, Python or other) for product testing

  • Demonstrated proficiency in measuring and controlling various electronic components such as motors, actuators, positional sensing devices, load transducers, etc.

  • Experience with applicable manufacturing processes such as machining, finishing, and rapid prototyping

Salary Range: $155,500.00 - $233,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
