Job description

The Communications and Telemetry (C&T) Technician I will support the NASA Launch Services Program (LSP) through the Expendable Launch Vehicle Integrated Support (ELVIS) contract at Vandenberg Space Force Base (VSFB). With oversight, the technician shall operate, maintain, and perform preventative maintenance of devices and applications for the Mission Operational Systems including, but not limited to, Mission Operations Communication System (MOCS), Mission Video System (MVS), NASA ELV Telemetry System (NETS), and Telecommunications Transport Systems (TTS), listed by reference in Attachment J-09, Government Support Systems Hardware and Software Resources.

Essential Roles & Responsibilities: 

  • Install, program, test, maintain, troubleshoot, repair and document C&T hardware and software systems to include cabling, connectors, and other tangible system components. 
  • Installation of assigned C&T hardware and software systems per engineering specifications. 
  • Program C&T hardware and software systems per engineering specifications.
  • Test and analyze C&T hardware and software systems to ensure operational readiness through system monitoring and periodic maintenance instructions.
  • Maintain C&T hardware and software systems to ensure operational readiness through system monitoring and periodic maintenance. 
  • Troubleshoot C&T hardware and software systems to isolate the root cause and provide status reports.
  • Repair C&T hardware and software systems per C&T engineering and/or vendor specifications. 
  • Follow pre-defined documentations to include, but not limited to, drawings, procedures, and spreadsheets to ensure proper implementation.
  • Provide readiness to ensure accuracy and configuration management of C&T hardware and software system documentation. 
  • Actively strive to further technical knowledge and abilities pertaining to the job. 
  • Perform all work within the scope of all company and government procedures of the contract.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled project, system, and mission planning meetings.
  • Develop, submit, and status purchase requests to ensure timely delivery of materials. 
  • Ensure projects and tasks in the C&T SharePoint Management System are maintained to provide accurate status to NASA, spacecraft customers, and management. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • AA/AS Degree in technical field, proven relevant work experience, or industry certifications
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance and a valid California Driver's License

  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision in the performance of all duties and responsibilities 
  • Must be able to travel as required for operational and mission requirements

  • Perform duties and responsibilities that may at time be outside normal activities and assignments but are necessary to provide timely and required support to NASA, their customers, and the company.
