Position Description:
The Chief Engineer will provide technical leadership and product development expertise and oversee the development of a broad portfolio of defense and space systems products for Voyager’s Product Organization. The ideal candidate will have experience leading the development of aerospace and defense products through the full product development lifecycle, as well as a broad understanding of the application of these products into defense and space systems. The candidate will oversee the application of DfX principles, including design for manufacturability, reliability, test, and cost. The candidate will support product development process improvements, the creation of product roadmaps, and strategic planning for future product development and maturation. The Chief Engineer will report to Voyager’s EVP of Products and Engineering Organization.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership and product development subject matter expertise to advance Voyager’s defense and space systems products.
- Evaluate existing designs, perform product gap assessments, and make recommendations for future product designs, features, capabilities, and upgrades.
- Support project planning, including the development of cost, schedule, and technical baselines for product development activities.
- Support the development of product requirements, specifications, and identification of applicable standards.
- Oversee product design, development, manufacturing, assembly, integration, test, verification, validation, and certification activities.
- Provide support for production, delivery, and post-delivery customer operations.
- Apply engineering principles and concepts and analytical and problem-solving skills to solve complex issues.
- Develop clear solutions, provide in-depth technical assessments, and proactively identify, address, and resolve issues and risks to drive risk-informed decision-making and product lifecycle sustainability.
- Ensure adherence to quality standards throughout the product development process.
- Identify, capture, and apply lessons learned in support of continuous process improvement.
- Evaluate and produce products of a technical nature using technical rigor, adequacy, completeness, and appropriate application of the specialty engineering disciplines as standard processes.
- Assists with technology readiness assessments; identifies risks and issues with proposed technologies while collaborating with other teams (i.e., Test & Evaluation, Integrated Logistics Support, etc.).
- Perform engineering analysis on organizational technical processes; suggests process improvements that increase efficiency and/or effectiveness of operations as required.
- Travel: 10-20% for an on-site candidate; up to 25% for remote candidate
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science, or equivalent technical discipline.
- 15+ years of experience working in the aerospace and defense industry.
- 10+ years of experience in product design, development and/or manufacturing.
- Ability to demonstrate engineering principles and concepts.
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills; able to sort through complex issues and develop clear solutions, provide in-depth technical assessments and identify, address, and resolve issues and risks.
- Expertise with requirements development and analysis and the development of systems engineering-related documents including requirements/specifications, interface control documents, and validation & verification plans.
- Ability to coordinate with numerous stakeholders/customers from NASA and DoD agencies to commercial industry.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
- Effective interpersonal and team skills to engage at both the peer and management levels.
- Clear and concise written and verbal communications and presentation skills; able to clearly articulate ideas, recommendations, and options to the customer and senior leaders.
- Highly organized individual, capable of handling multiple competing priorities; able to multi-task, prioritize tasks, and quickly adjust in a dynamic environment.
Preferences:
- 10+ years of program or technical leadership experience.
- 10+ years of experience in architecture/requirements definition/analysis, acquisitions, engineering/design, fielding/integration, and verification or analysis.
- Demonstrated product development process improvement experience.
- Relevant experience engaging government and commercial customers to advance projects and initiatives at varying degrees of complexity through engineering management.
- Proficiency in various enterprise tools, including enterprise resource planning, product data management, product lifecycle management, quality management, manufacturing resource planning, and engineering design and analysis
- Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools to plan, execute, and monitor projects effectively.
- Knowledge of Digital Engineering (DE) or Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approaches and applications (i.e., SparxEA, Cameo, etc.).
- Knowledge of Agile software development processes and applications (i.e., Jira/Confluence).
Salary Range: $185,000 To $260,000 Annually
