We have an opening for an experienced Software Engineer to join our team as a lead Flight Software Engineer and Control Account Manager for Kauai and other ESPASat-L programs. 

This position will be in Dulles, VA. This work does require a TS/SCI clearance and will primarily be performed in a SCIF environment.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate experience in requirements analysis, modeling and simulation, verification and validation at subsystem and system level 
  • Demonstrated ability in software engineering, controls, or systems engineering leadership experience, preferably with experience in Space Flight Software or Simulation Software. 
  • Form strong partnerships to ensure lockstep coordination with adjacent discipline areas and program manager leadership 
  • Act independently to uncover and resolve issues associated with the development and implementation of operational programs 
  • Plan R & D programs and recommends technological application programs to accomplish long-range objectives. Work accomplished typically supports long-range strategic goals. 
  • Serve as consultant to top management in long-range company planning concerning new or projected areas of technological research and advancements.
  • Prime spokesperson on company's technical capabilities and future directions. Often instrumental in attracting and obtaining major new company business. 
  • Interface with customers and program management to provide architecture and overall strategy, ensuring Flight Software schedule and budget remain healthy,
  • Work with functional management to ensure adequate program and product line staffing, mentoring junior engineers on the team, supporting on-orbit operations, preparing flight software builds, and verifying and validating all flight software requirements.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in a Software Engineering or related STEM field
  • Minimum of 16 years of Software/Systems related experience with a high proficiency in technical problem solving to include decomposition, root cause analysis, solution development, implementation and monitoring 
  • Active or current Top Secret clearance at time of application with the ability to obtain SCI
  • U.S. citizen
  • C/C++/python experience on large-scale projects using code repository tools like SVN/Git and metric-gathering tools like Jira/Trac.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience in a leadership/management role in the ESPASat-L product line of spacecraft. 
  • Experience with Earned Value Management 
  • Working knowledge of Staffing, Engineering Metrics and Training resources, processes, and tools 
  • Demonstrated systems engineering excellence in requirements analysis, modeling and simulation, verification and validation at subsystem and system level or Demonstrated vehicle development, mission systems integration, ground and flight test validation experience 
  • Experience in successfully developing and integrating software and hardware solutions for space applications 
  • Experience in system and subsystem specification development including verification methodologies 
  • Experience implementing action plans based on metrics and/or root cause/corrective actions 
  • Master of Science in Engineering or other STEM discipline 
  • Hands-on technical experience with spacecraft or satellite related systems 
  • Proven experience leading technically diverse teams across multiple locations 

Salary Range: $206,000.00 - $290,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
