We are hiring a skilled Cloud Data Engineer1 to join our Catalog Science Branch in Data Management Division (DMD) to help advance our state-of-the-art, astronomical data archive, the Mikulski Archive for Space Telescopes (MAST). MAST is the public data archive for more than 20 missions spanning more than 30 years. Our branch is responsible for a multi-petabyte astronomical data archive that maintains Hubble, James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), Kepler, GALEX, TESS and the future Nancy Grace Roman (Roman) mission data
This position can support hybrid work. Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to our local market. (MD, DE, VA, PA, DC & WV).
This position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Residence in order to meet ITAR requirements.
The Role:
The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining cloud-based data system.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, construct, install, test, and maintain highly scalable cloud-based data management systems
- Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines
- Work with cloud platforms like Amazon Web Services (AWS) to manage data storage and processing system and implement best practices for cloud sources optimization
- Collaborate with the application engineers, archive scientists and architects along with storage and networking engineering to provide data solution on architectural design and implementation strategy
Qualifications & Requirements:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Undergraduate with 3+ years experience in cloud development
- Proficiency in programming language like python, SQL
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Amazon Web Services) and related applications/tools
- Experience with developing, building and deploying scalable data pipeline
- Familiarity with big data tools and frameworks
- Familiarity with cloud data storage and data access strategy
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Compensation is commensurate with education and experience. Salary range is $93k to $105k.
