Our early career engineers have the unique experience of getting both mentoring and coaching while working side by side with recognized industry experts on real-world assignments directly related to their field of study. Bring your knowledge and desire to learn, and we will provide the experience.

The Summer program is typically 10-12 weeks starting in late May/early June and work an average of 40 hours a week. Depending on satisfactory completion of certain criteria during the program, you may be considered for a full-time position upon graduation. You'll ask questions, get involved, bring your ideas, be part of an actual project team, attend planning meetings, complete assignments as tasked by your team, absorb and learn from your team and apply that learning to projects assigned.

You'll have the opportunity to learn fundamental business processes and procedures, build your technical foundation through practice and mentorship, and participate in an in-depth program built by our University Recruiting team, that includes cross-functional workshops and meeting with leadership to gain understanding of the business and Sierra Space culture.

Key Responsibilities:

Note: Specific responsibilities will vary based on specific program assignment, but in general, will be responsible for:  

• Working on the flight software team implementing software design changes

• Attending and contributing to design and architecture meetings  

• Doing complicated tasks alongside flight software engineers 

• Working alongside test to help debug and troubleshoot problems 

• Advance simulation or analysis capabilities of toolsets

• Assist in the development and analysis of GNC algorithms and systems for aerospace vehicles

• Conduct simulations and performance evaluations of guidance, navigation, and control systems

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university

• Students must be graduating between 12/2025 - 6/2026 and seeking full-time roles following that graduation.

• Strong skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio

• Ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment

• Strong organization skills, detail oriented, and self-initiative

• The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance is required

Preferred Qualifications:

• Pursuing a degree in Aerospace Engineering, computer science/engineering or a related discipline 

• Knowledge of software development methodologies such as Agile/Scrum 

• Experience with version control systems such as Git 

• Experience with programming languages such as Python and C++ 

• Basic understanding of GNC principles and technologies, including control algorithms, sensor fusion, and navigation methods.

Engineering Junior/Senior: $30.00/hour

Engineering BA/MS Dual Program or 5 yr BA/MS Program: $31.00

Engineering Master's: $35.00/hour

Engineering PhD: $42.00/hour
 

Pay is determined by the level of courses completed during the school term prior to starting the program, not by the courses the individual will be taking following the program completion.

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance. U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance for employment. Non-U.S. citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance.  The Department of Defense Consolidated Adjudications Facility (DoD CAF), a federal government agency, handles the adjudicative aspects of the security clearance eligibility process for industry applicants.
