Northrop Grumman Space Systems (NGSS) is seeking candidates for the position of Systems Engineering Manager 2 in the Tactical Space Systems Division (TSSD). This position will be located in Dulles VA.

This role is 2 parts: Approximately 20% functional management role and approximately 80% direct charge program role.  The direct program work will include System Engineering (SE) technical work and/or leadership, FMSA or CBCS architect or technical lead, and/or SE mission. The Functional role will include providing cross program collaboration to give Operating Units opportunities to leverage technologies or designs that may not have been previously considered.

The Systems Engineering Manager 2 will be responsible for the following:

• Managing technical personnel in the Systems Engineering Directorate, focusing on individuals with expertise in Fault Management and System Autonomy and Computer Based Control Systems, systems engineering disciplines/threads that focus on the integrated system behaviors and functions relating to autonomy and avionics hardware and software.

• Their department will include approximately 15-20 team members.

• They will ensure qualified and experienced personnel (and supporting design and analysis tools and other resources) are assigned to meet the staffing needs of programs, and track and execute peer reviews for major program events.

• The role includes all aspects of staff management, including recruiting, hiring, onboarding, training, coaching/mentoring, career development, performance management, compensation management, and separation of assigned employees.

• The role may include responsibility to define, propose, manage, and execute efforts for the purposes of internal research and development.

Basic Qualifications:

• Must have U.S. Citizenship with active Top Secret Clearance at time of application, with the ability to obtain SCI

• Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 9+ years, Masters Degree with 7 years or, PhD with 5 years

• Experience in Systems Engineering for mission critical space applications

• Experience with the design, implementation, test, verification, validation, and operation of FMSA and/or Computer Based Control Systems

•  Proficiency in related engineering programs, Microsoft Office or equivalent document generation programs, Microsoft SharePoint or equivalent collaboration tool

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience leading, supporting, and/or operating activities for space missions within national security space, space logistics, civil and commercial space, and/or human space exploration.

• Experience in systems engineering functional management or demonstrated leadership experience.

• Experience balancing workforce versus budget and balancing SE staffing for multiple programs

• Experience developing career development plans for staff at various experience levels.

• Experience with the complete space mission development life cycle

• Multi-discipline space engineering experience interfacing with team members in any of the traditional Spacecraft subsystems

Salary Range: $156,500.00 - $234,700.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
