Northrop Grumman Strategic Space Systems is hiring a Staff Software Engineer (Software Lead) with the Software Engineering organization based out of Manhattan Beach, CA.
The Staff Software Engineer will develop software which will operate in a resource constrained target environment with soft and hard real time requirements for various flight/space/ground systems. The software will typically implement complex data analysis, data routing, and/or control systems algorithms. Candidate will need familiarity with various processor, memory, and I/O architectures and be able to implement both procedural and object-oriented software in C++. The selected candidate will work with real-time operating systems and their associated host/development environments and tools. Must be comfortable working in a lab environment. The Staff Software Engineer will also provide technical leadership for more junior team members.
Additional responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Determine overall system and user needs; analyze system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops utility programs
- Design, develop, integrate and test real-time flight software that implements a payload controller in a RISC-V soft processor running in a RTG4 FPGA in about 1 year.
- Develop key software functions including mechanism control, telemetry reporting, fault monitoring, and stored command sequence responses and failover to a redundant processor.
- Develop software in C++ in FreeRTOS. The software will largely be developed in the unclassified environment but may have some functions added in a classified environment.
- Applies the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycle to support the generation of such engineering applications.
- Interface with application users, hardware and systems engineering teams in a lab environment.
- Conduct multidisciplinary research and collaborate with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product software.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related STEM degree with 12+ years of software development experience, OR Master’s Degree with 10+ years of experience, OR Ph.D. with 8+years of experience
- Strong proficiency in C or C++ programming
- Experience executing in a RTOS environment (i.e., RT-Linux, FreeRTOS, VxWorks, GH Integrity)
- Experience and demonstrated ability to lead, manage, mentor a small technical team
- Candidate must have an active DoD Top Secret clearance upon application with the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience developing on RISC-V soft processor running in a RTG4 FPGA
- Working knowledge of standard test equipment: network analyzers, oscilloscopes, waveform generators, synthesizers, digitizers, and/or signal analyzers.
- Experience with FreeRTOS
