This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.
As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will provide technical guidance to the team, advising on technical approaches, and bringing your experience on resolutions to technical problems. Your role will encompass both combustion devices and avionics domains within the Ignition team. Individuals applying for the role should have a solid understanding of fluid mechanics and electrical engineering but expertise in either is not required.
As a Responsible Engineer within the Engines Design Office, you will support a passionate team of contributors and experts serving the BE-4 Valves and Ignition Systems (V&I), Integrated Product Team (IPT). In this role, and in partnership with Blue Engines’ design engineers, project engineers, and manufacturing engineers and with guidance from your IPTL, you will develop and manage hardware over its entire life cycle, from definition, interfaces, conceptual design, detailed design, component development/qualification, assembly, verification, and operation. You will work to design/test the next iteration of BE-4’s ignition system, manage risks, develop mitigations, and resolve hardware non-conformances for your hardware. You will work with both internal and external suppliers to design, build, test and analyze components for the ignition system.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Design, develop, and coordinate integration of ignition hardware including mechanical and electrical designs
- Troubleshoot ignition hardware on and off engine, disposition nonconforming hardware and improve designs through corrective action
- Work with IPT team to develop risk assessments of hardware and develop mitigation plans to reduce risk
- Develop test requirements and assist with the development of test plans
- Assist with the development of manufacturing methods and provide technical guidance in the development of detailed work orders
- Support cost reduction activities through simplification, test requirement reduction, and design for manufacturing (DFM)
Minimum Qualifications:
- B.S. in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, Physics, Systems Engineering or related technical subject area
- 3+ years of experience in fluids, mechanical and/or electrical systems/components
- Experience with the design/development of aerospace components ( solenoid valves, directional valves, manifolds, regulators, pressure vessels and instrumentation & avionics components including schematic Capture, circuit analysis, experience with high voltage circuitry )
- Experience developing, integrating and certifying aerospace systems for flight
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a fast paced, dynamic work environment
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications:
- M.S. in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, Physics, Systems Engineering or related technical subject area
- Electrical Engineering experience, specifically designing, building, testing, and failure investigation experience of electrical components
- Works with 3D CAD programs (Creo preferred)
- Experience with the entire life cycle of a propulsion system
- Experience in Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA)
Compensation Range for:
CA applicants is $117,498.00-$164,497.20;CO applicants is $107,707.00-$150,789.45;WA applicants is $117,498.00-$164,497.20Other site ranges may differ
