Full Stack Geospatial Software Engineer 

At Near Space Labs we design, build, and operate a fleet of stratospheric robots to image the earth. We launch our proprietary, balloon-based imaging robots to heights between 40,000 and 60,000 feet. From this vantage point, we capture petabytes of imagery for a variety of use cases. 

We seek a proactive Software Engineer to drive the evolution of our petabyte-scale geospatial imagery pipeline. This role will be instrumental in ensuring the seamless flow of data, collaborating closely with data and software engineers You will provide ongoing support by actively monitoring and troubleshooting data pipeline performance and reliability. Your contributions will directly impact our ability to deliver high-quality imagery to customers with optimal speed and reliability.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Working with React, Angular, Typescript and vanilla JavaScript to design, build, and maintain new and existing tools for visualizing and analyzing geospatial data.
  • Maintaining and updating our proprietary mission control application.
  • Writing efficient, scalable Python APIs and web services that integrate with our existing backend infrastructure.
  • Rapid generation of functional prototypes.

Location

This is a remote position open to anyone authorized to work in the United States.

Your Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in a professional software development environment.
  • Proficient in Python with demonstrated experience building efficient, scalable APIs. Experience with asynchronous programming is a plus.
  • Experience with Typescript and at least one commonly used framework (React, Angular, Vue, etc)  and proficient working directly in vanilla javascript.
  • Experience with front-end geospatial libraries such as Leaflet, Cesium, OpenLayers, Mapbox, or Google Maps.
  • Knowledge of web mapping services, including WMS, WMTS, and XYZ tile services.
  • An understanding of scalable microservices.
  • Ability to work autonomously, managing your own projects and deliverables in partnership with a product manager and engineering leadership.

Compensation and Benefits

  • $90,000 - $150,000 salary range depending on location and experience;
  • 25 days annual Paid Time Off;
