The Payload and Ground Systems organization within the Northrop Grumman Space Systems pushes the boundaries of innovation, redefines engineering capabilities, and drives advances in various sciences. We are looking for a Principal or Sr. Principal Core Network Engineer to support the design and implementation services for WAN/LAN infrastructures out of our Chantilly, VA office. The ideal candidate will maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance WAN/LAN, SD-WAN, and SDN network environments. They will also monitor network performance, system logs, and capacity. Programming knowledge and scripting experience required for this role (Python, Bash, etc.)
Duties:
- Provide operational support to all routing/security products within the Customer infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot equipment and Core network problems pertaining to hardware and to open and track cases through to problem resolution.
- Hold design and information gathering Technical Exchange Meetings (TEM) with the Customer to understand the Customer’s existing network design and technical requirements of new network designs.
- Pro-actively evaluate and audit customer network configurations, alarms and event logs.
- Facilitate operations calls with customer to discuss equipment and network problems, and to provide case status updates, including the reasons for any problems encountered and the workarounds and/or solutions that are being tried.
- Partner with other Resident Engineers to develop best practices guidelines based on lessons learned which could help minimize risk associated with major network upgrades or changes in the network.
- Test patches and fixes to operating software and to ensure that they are implemented and functioning correctly in the live network.
- Assist with network inventory tracking and provide periodic reports to Technical Staff.
- Assist the customer to develop Network Operating and Equipment Operating Procedures.
- Support ongoing efforts in defining best practice policies for product applications.
Basic Qualifications:
- Principal Network Engineer: Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) degree with 5 years of Network Engineering experience; or Master's degree with 3 years of Network Engineering experience for Level 3 Principal Network Engineer placement
- Sr. Principal Network Engineer: Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) with 8 years of Network Engineering experience; or Master's degree with 6 years of Network Engineering experience for Level 4 Senior Principal Network Engineer placement
- Active TS/SCI with CI Poly
- Compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) 8570 Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level 2. CCNA or above and/or, JNCIS or above
- Programming knowledge and scripting experience in Python, Bash, etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior Work experience at a large enterprise or a Data Center experience
- Experience with core routing BGP, OSPF, ISIS protocols.
- Experience with supporting LNS (L2TP Network Server) LNS L2TP, DHCP, radius subscriber services
- Experience with supporting BNG PPPoE, RADIUS, Policy Control and Enforcement, QoS
- Experience with MPLS, VPLS, L2VPNs.
- Strong customer interface and communication skills.
