Hydrosat is a space and data analytics company building a new Earth Observation constellation and software to unlock the power of thermal infrared imagery. Our mission is to capture and deliver high spatio-temporal resolution thermal infrared data, currently not available from other sources, to provide insights that benefit the environment, enhance food and water security, and serve other critical applications. Our downstream applications team in Luxembourg combines best-in-class remote sensing, machine learning, and cutting-edge fusion approaches to thermal imagery to deliver innovative and scalable solutions to the agri-food industry.

What you’ll do
As a Staff Data Engineer, you will design and implement high-quality data pipelines using modern cloud technologies. You will shape architectural decisions, optimize cloud infrastructure, and scale data solutions to support real-time analytics and business growth. Beyond hands-on development, you will lead by mentoring data engineers, conducting code reviews, and fostering best practices. You will also collaborate closely with Science, Product, and Customer Success teams to drive data-driven decision-making.
Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership:
- Setting the technical direction while encouraging collaboration (e.g. RFC).
- Leading proposals on data architecture, design, and implementation.
- Ensuring the technical and schedule feasibility of projects.
- Leading code reviews and ensuring best practices are followed.
Hands-on Development:
- Developing and maintaining data pipelines.
- Debugging and resolving complex technical issues.
- Optimizing performance and scalability of data pipelines.
Mentorship:
- Providing technical guidance and support to team members.
- Assisting other team members with difficult problems.
- Sharing knowledge and expertise through workshops or presentations.
Collaboration:
- Working closely with product/project managers to understand requirements.
- Collaborating with other teams on cross-functional projects.
- Ensuring alignment between technical and business objectives.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
- 10+ years of data engineering experience.
- Proficiency in designing scalable, efficient, and maintainable data pipelines and architecture.
- Experience in building and managing ETL workflows for data extraction, transformation, and loading.
- Experience with orchestration frameworks to automate and monitor workflows, such as Apache Airflow or Dagster.
- Experience building and operating CI/CD pipelines.
- Highly self-motivated, keen learner able to solve challenging problems with creative solutions.
- Strong team player with demonstrated ability to take ownership and drive execution.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with setting up and maintaining cloud infrastructure (preferably AWS).
- Experience with provisioning and maintaining Kubernetes clusters.
- Understanding of MLOps best practices for monitoring, versioning, and maintaining models in production.
- Experience in Earth observation, AI, geospatial, imaging science, or computer vision fields.
