SUMMARY

As a Tooling Engineer, you will be responsible for the fabrication, integration, test, and delivery of production tooling and fixturing solutions to the engine production line. You will work side by side with propulsion & manufacturing engineers to identify requirements and drive towards creative and cost-effective solutions. Tooling Engineers are makers, people who can take an idea on paper and turn it into a fully functioning component ready to support mass production of rocket engines!

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • End-to-end ownership of the design, fabrication, assembly, commissioning, and use procedures for tooling solutions
  • Collaborate closely with propulsion and manufacturing engineers to identify tooling and fixturing needs to solve production problems
  • Prepare and present design reviews to internal stakeholders on new and evolving tooling solutions
  • Effectively implement best practices of mechanical design, GD&T, analysis into tooling designs
  • Effectively manage tooling projects through the design, fabrication, and commissioning lifecycle including budget and vendor selection
  • Produce, review, and release CAD and detail drawings of all tooling components and assemblies
  • Construct and maintain a schedule for each project and report regularly on progress

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field
  • Proven experience designing complex assemblies or tools
  • Experience using CAD and FEA-based analysis software
  • Deep knowledge of GD&T best practices and familiarity with ASME Y14.5
  • Strong understanding of first-principles in Mechanical and Structural design
  • Able to read and interpret technical drawings and assembly instructions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey methodologies for assembly and troubleshooting
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills – Must be a team player
  • Proven experience with tasks requiring extreme attention to detail and prolonged mental concentration
  • Ability to thrive in high stakes, stressful, short deadline environments
  • Critical thinking and strong decision making ability

Desired

  • Experience with modern manufacturing principles, such as Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, etc.
  • Experience with complex system assembly and hands on build experience preferably in space systems or aerospace applications
  • Experience with writing assembly procedures or documentation for mechanical, electrical, or structural systems
  • Experience writing test plans, procedures and identifying pass/fail criteria on systems.
  • Knowledge of data analysis packages (Python/high level Excel) preferred
