Aurora
You'll be joining our Aurora Software and Controls Department which has 200+ Technical staff in various leadership roles, Software Engineers, DevOps Engineers, Systems Administrators, Database Administrators, and Network Engineers from entry-level to the most senior chief engineers and architects. This engineering organization supports numerous programs within the Payload and Ground Systems organization. We have plenty of opportunity for career advancement into higher level technical roles or leadership positions. We are part of a larger local engineering organization that includes Systems Engineering and Hardware Engineering staff. This overall local engineering organization influences cross-program collaboration, professional development and training, as well as engagement activities such as lunch-n-learns, campus events, and leadership mixers.
Program
You’ll be joining an existing on-contract classified portfolio called Swordfish and one of its program’s called Starfleet. Starfleet is supporting a critical national security mission that is both in Operations and major development. The program team is based in Aurora, CO yet has a distributed team located at several other Northrop Grumman sites across the US as well as at distributed collaborating partner company sites. Some of the program’s baseline and environments are unclassified allowing some work outside a secure facility. Once you are fully program cleared, you will see and understand the full software lifecycle and full program mission. The overall team is about 30 staff, most are located in Aurora. The team is composed of software developers organized into agile scrum teams that primarily work in two large rooms with cubicle like individual spaces (rather than in dedicated offices). The program’s culture is agile, fast-paced, high performing, proactive, collaborative, and welcoming of new ideas, technology, and tools that could benefit the mission or help the team be more productive or produce a higher quality product.
Job
This program is seeking a highly experienced and motivated engineer to fill a Chief Scrum Master or Release Train Engineer (RTE) role. An intermediate to advanced level of experience as a Scrum Master is expected. Given the team structure, there are multiple Scrum Masters (one per agile team) and a Chief Scrum Master.
Job responsibilities include: Leading and facilitating the implementation of Scrum methodology across the organization. Collaborating with the development teams to ensure effective Scrum practices are followed. Coaching and mentoring team members to improve their Scrum skills and knowledge. Working closely with the Product Owner to ensure effective backlog management and prioritization. Ensuring that the Scrum framework is aligned with the organization's goals and objectives. Conducting regular Scrum training and workshops to improve the team's understanding and proficiency. Continuously improve and optimizing the Scrum process to meet the changing needs of the organization. Collaborating with other teams and stakeholders to ensure effective communication and coordination. Providing guidance and support to the team in resolving any Scrum-related issues or challenges. Capturing and reporting key metrics of the development teams, including velocity, cycle time, and lead time.
A Chief Scrum Master at our Principal (03) and Senior Principal (04) levels are expected to quickly gain mission and system domain knowledge coupling that with prior experience to mentor and influence others as well as contribute to advancing the program forward through their job. The program appreciates team members that identify and propose improvement ideas in technology, process, architecture, or tooling and are fast-learners.

Basic Qualifications:
- Level 3: Bachelors in Science with 5 Years of professionally relevant experience; or Masters in Science with 3 Years of professionally relevant experience with Masters in Science; 4 additional years of professional relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
- Level 4: Bachelors in Science with 8 Years of professionally relevant experience; or Masters in Science with 6 Years of professionally relevant experience with Masters in Science; 4 additional years of professional relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
- Active Top Secret clearance required to apply. Ability to obtain and maintain SCI clearance after starting work.
- Ability to pass a Counterintelligence Polygraph (CI-Poly), yet not required to start
- Experience as an engineer (or developer) on an agile software development program spanning the lifecyle from development to production deployment
- Experience using Atlassian’s Jira tool
- At least 1 year of experience in a Scrum Master role
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors in Science in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering with a software or embedded systems focus, or Systems Engineering
- Current (or prior) Product Owner, Scrum Master, or Scaled Agile Framework Certificate(s)
- Current (or prior) Jira Certificate
- Active TS/SCI clearance
- Prior completed Counterintelligence Polygraph (CI-Poly)
- Prior engineering experience within the Space Industry
- Experience in a Chief Scrum Master or Release Train Engineer (RTE) role
- Experience in other Agile servant leadership roles, such as Product Owner
- Excellent facilitation and servant leadership skills
- Excellent presentation, communication, technical writing, and organization skills
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills applied to removing impediments
- Experience sharing knowledge via mentoring, coaching, or training
- Experience managing multiple tasks at a time with good results even under pressure
- At least 2 years of full-time experience as a Software Engineer OR as a Systems Engineer
- If a Software Engineer background, then development experience in JAVA, experience using Docker and Kubernetes, experience with relational databases (RDMS), and experience using Kafka
- If a Systems Engineer background, then experience on a program that used JAVA, Docker, Kubernetes, relational databases, and Kafka
- Ability to travel (yet very limited, up to 5%)
