Job Description:
We are looking for a Sr. Mechanical Engineer (ME) to join a team of designers of cutting-edge components for space applications including Software Defined Radios, Single Board Computers and Optical Equipment such as Space Rated Cameras, Star Trackers and Laser Communications.
The Sr. ME will be responsible for mechanical design, structural analysis, thermal design and analysis, material selection, and EMI design considerations as they pertain to electronics and avionics in extreme environments. He/she will need to be Familiar with space and satellite environment and their effects on mechanical structures and thermal dissipation is required.
Because of the need for consistent, in-person collaboration and, due to the nature of this role, this position will be performed fulltime on site.
Job Requirements:
- Mechanical Engineering design experience.
- Directly designed enclosures of electronic assemblies (PCBAs), etc. or designed moderately complex mechanical/aerospace components or systems.
- Strong understanding of engineering mat’ls (Aluminums, Steels, PCB Mat’ls, adhesives, solders, etc.)
- Thermal, shock and vibrational analysis experience with electronic or similar assemblies.
- Strong background in the knowledge of GD&T.
- Familiar with electronic and electrical components (PCBs, connectors, BGAs, SMT components)
- Familiarity with PCBA Layout
- Knowledge of space flight requirements, standards, and environments is required.
- Solidworks- Drafting, 3D Modeling, Design and Simulation- 5 Years Minimum (or equivalent 3D CAD)
- Direct design and thermal, shock, and vibration analysis experience using Solidworks
- Possess proficient knowledge of drafting standards per ASME-Y14.5, methods of GD&T and documentation skills, and impact of component GD&T on system performance
- Manufacturing Knowledge and Experience
- Understanding of machining and mechanical assembly as it impacts design.
- Some direct machining experience (lathe, mill).
- Understanding of the manufacturing processes required for the design. Examples:
- Machining
- Solder assembly: reflow/manual
- Adhesive attachment: (e.g. epoxy, silicone RTV)
- PCB fabrication
- Surface Protection: chemfilm, anodizing, plating, conformal coat, etc.
- Create Mechanical BOMs
- Select proper materials (adhesives, overcoats, inks, etc) based on spaceflight requirements/restrictions and materials engineering knowledge.
- Select proper fasteners to meet space flight requirements.
- Select appropriate connectors for spaceflight enclosures both internal and external.
- Experience writing manufacturing instructions.
- Project Management
- Experience in the definition, cost/labor estimation and scheduling of tasks required for program support.
- Ability to manage mechanical engineering tasks for multiple programs to completion.
- Writing reports and presentations and contributing to proposals and design reviews
- Working with Subject Experts to complete complex designs for both digital and RF systems
- Ability to work with vendors to source manufactured hardware

- Good verbal and written skills for interfacing with customers and team members.
- Ability to create and present engineering power points internally and for customers.
- Ability to work effectively in a leadership or support role on a multi-disciplinary project team.
Education, Skills, & Experience:
- The Sr. ME will have at least 8 years of relevant experience and also have a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent relevant industry experience.
- Capable of multi-tasking; working on multiple projects & supporting production activities
- Strong technical background; capable of coming up-to-speed quickly on new technologies.
- Proficient in personal computing skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
