Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.Northrop Grumman Tactical Space Systems is seeking a Software Systems Test Engineer w/systems engineering mindset. This position will be located in Colorado Springs, CO and will support Tactical Space Systems Division in their development and deployment of satellite ground software to customer resources. This role requires strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate technical topics to management and non-technical audiences. This position may consider part-time telework.
What you’ll get to do:
- Collaborate with development team to understand and assess software changes and related testing required to provide new or modified capabilities for operational users
- Develop testing strategy for user stories, features, and capabilities that define new and modified capabilities
- Develop and document step-by-step test cases based on the software requirements elicited by mission owners and software developers to verify the software is compliant with the requirements captured in the user stories, features, and capabilities
- Develop an automation test suite to fully regression test the system in a headless environment
- Write automation scripts that test software and systems
- Test the software in the actual or simulated environment that it was designed for with users of the system in realistic operational conditions
- As part of testing, evaluate the operational readiness of a software application prior to the release or production, ensuring system compliance with external interfaces in a common operating environment
- End-to-end System Integration and Testing
- Identify, log, and track defects discovered during testing
- Work with the team to ensure defects are corrected and the software works as expected
- Assist in the creation of test project status reports and metrics to provide weekly and/or monthly status to the management team
- Ensure proper version control and configuration management of all test objects developed and test environments used
This position can be filled at the Associate Engineer or Engineer level.
Basic Qualifications for a Software Associate Test Engineer
- Bachelor’s in Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or closely related discipline (or Master’s or PhD). Must have at least 1 full year of work experience outside of internships, research assistants, projects, etc. Experience can be considered in lieu of degree.
- Experience with requirements development, system integration & test and validation and verification.
- Demonstrated experience in technical problem solving, to include decomposition, root cause analysis, solution development, implementation, and monitoring
- Clearance: Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a Security Clearance at time of application
Basic Qualifications for a Software Test Engineer
- Bachelor’s in Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or closely related discipline and 2+ years of relevant work experience with large, complex communication/satellite systems and/or ground software system testing (or 0 Years with Master’s Degree). Experience can be considered in lieu of degree.
- Experience writing operational test plans and test cases
- Experience with full systems development lifecycle for software maintenance, development, and/or implementation projects
- Experience in an Agile environment ensuring full functional testing of new features being added every sprint, with a focus on operational impact and assessment
- Demonstrated experience in technical problem solving, to include decomposition, root cause analysis, solution development, implementation, and monitoring
- Clearance: Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a Security Clearance at time of application
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Atlassian tools (JIRA, Confluence, and Bitbucket)
- Experience with Container Management (Dockers and Kubernetes)
- Experience in development and deployment of satellite ground software
- Experience in using risk-driven techniques to develop, maintain, and execute operational test cases for mission unique software
- Ability to interact with development team and operational users to assess current software gaps, develop testing strategies, and recommend solutions for testing operationally relevant objectives
- Ability to assess overall operational effectiveness of a system to accomplish the specified mission with consideration to functional stability, interoperability, training, and capability to meet defined mission outcomes
- Top Secret/SCI clearance

Salary Range: $61,200.00 - $91,800.00Salary Range 2: $73,900.00 - $110,900.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
