About the Role:
As a Technical Program Manager (TPM) at Planet, you will drive Planet’s largest, complex efforts that cross many teams and organizational boundaries. You will provide razor focus to enable execution, manage risk, and are the accountable leader to orchestrate these large-scale, cross-functional efforts. You will work closely with team leads to develop and manage end to end program plans and support requirement reviews with internal and external customers and usher projects through the entire project life cycle. This includes establishing and managing internal processes, project schedules, metrics, KPIs, identifying risks, and clearly communicating them to project stakeholders. You're equally at home explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical trade-offs in product development with engineers.
This TPM Position is in the Mission Enablement Group which is responsible for orchestrating the delivery of new space systems and the successful execution of complex Go to Market operations. In particular, you will be supporting the new Hyperspectral product line produced by the recently launched Tanager satellite and will provide Program Management support for high-value hyperspectral contract(s). Within Planet you will orchestrate cross functional development efforts spanning Product, Software, Platform, Space, and Commercial. This includes developing roadmaps, tracking progress, and working on strategic efforts.
With regard to customer-centric Program Management, you are the customer point person in answering technical questions, building schedules, and ensuring deliverables meet customer needs. You promote collaboration across multi-disciplinary teams including Software Engineering, Space Systems, and Product Management all in an effort to ensure the assigned program is executed smoothly and on time. You will be expected to support regular reviews of the project with the cross functional team. You should have excellent project management skills and a foundation in leading engineering projects.
This is a full-time, remote position based in the United States.
Impact You’ll Own:
- Orchestrate cross-functional efforts and serve as the accountable owner for the overall hyperspectral program on the Product and Software side of Planet
- Lead and coordinate strategic and tactical efforts on hyperspectral contracts. Interface directly with a key customer(s) as the primary focal point at Planet.
- Partner with key program stakeholders (Mission Director, Product Manager, Engineering teams, and others) to scope and execute across various technical projects
- Communicate vertically & horizontally across Planet to keep stakeholders informed of technical progress, priorities, risks, and any changes to requirements or plans
- Facilitate technical discussions and decisions with a broad team. Promote healthy debate, encourage and support every member of the team to have a voice. If technical disagreements arise, facilitate the discussion towards a solution but drive and own the final decision
What You Bring:
- 6+ years of Program or Project Management experience
- Experience successfully managing/leading cross-functional projects with stakeholders across a broad organization and in managing tight timelines and high customer impact
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and creative thinking skills paired with the ability to communicate findings and recommendations
- Experience with remote sensing data, space systems, or imaging systems
- Demonstrated ability to influence without authority and working with multiple roles across the company or organization
What Makes You Stand Out:
- Experience with the full project lifecycle: concept initiation through deployment/go to market
- Experience working with State or Federal Agencies
- Experience working with hyperspectral data or companies
- Ability to be self-motivated and take initiative on efforts and augments existing programs with new ideas
- Experience in cloud computing, platform development and integrations; to include storage, administration, APIs, Analytics, UX, and derived data products.
- Active TS/SCI clearance or ability to hold one

Compensation:
The US base salary range for this full-time position at the commencement of employment is listed below. Additionally, this role might be eligible for discretionary short-term and long-term incentives (bonus and equity). The final salary range is determined by job related experience, skills and location. The range displays our typical hiring range for new hire salaries in US locations only.
