Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.Northrop Grumman Tactical Space Systems Division (NG TSSD) has an opportunity for an experienced Mission Assurance Manager 2 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in Gilbert, AZ. The individual will promote career development of the Mission Assurance workforce and foster a collaborative culture that sustains the momentum around employee engagement and inclusion, affordability, innovation, growth, and continuous improvement. The Mission Assurance Manager will also support individual National Space and Security (NSS), Civil and Commercial Satellite (CCS) program needs to ensure all requirements are met with on-time delivery and first-time quality.
The selected candidate will demonstrate strong management skills and will have a track record as a motivated leader, an effective communicator, and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The candidate will demonstrate a commitment to ethics and integrity, and the capability to innovate while challenging traditional ways of doing business. Demonstrated abilities to build diverse teams with high levels of engagement, including mentoring and coaching, are a must. They will have an ability to operate in a team environment and collaborate across the sector business areas as required to accomplish team and department goals.
This is a dual-role manager position, involving balancing both the overall Functional oversight and management of a group of 15-20 engineers as well as performing direct work on a program(s) / proposal(s). The candidate will spend 40% of their time on support of the organization and 60% of their time on technical direct work. The time split may fluctuate throughout the year, especially during surge recruiting and rotation months. The management indirect responsibilities involve organizational administrative activities, employeesβ performance and career development, staff and department meetings, and process improvements. The direct program responsibilities include mission assurance engineering, requirements management, oversight in discrepancy review, failure investigations, as well as cause and corrective action determinations. Represents Mission Assurance at different review boards including Configuration Control Board (CCB), Corrective Action Board (CAB), & Material Review Board (MRB). Includes proposal efforts, contract estimations, and earned value management oversight.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Assesses program performance and risks to ensure mission success.
- Implement the Division Quality Management System (QMS) and continuous improvement activity while engaging across and up for lessons learned and other improvement opportunities.
- Promotes the professional development Mission Assurance team and fosters a collaborative culture that sustains the momentum around employee engagement and inclusion, affordability, innovation, value growth and continuous improvement.
- Maintains the highest level of commitment to quality, compliance, and internal controls in adherence to company values and ethics.
- Provides clear assignments and helps employees connect their efforts to the larger goals of the organization. Creates a positive work environment characterized by mutual respect, value of differences, and a culture that motivates employees to their highest levels of performance.
- Frequent interface with the Northrop Grumman senior management and customer representatives.Β
- Advocate and implement continuous improvement opportunities, providing leadership and guidance in identifying and executing tasks to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of program performance.
Specific management responsibilities include:
- Employee assignment, and integration
- Recruitment and retention
- Metrics monitoring and oversight to assure a high performing team
- Identifying training, providing career-guidance, and facilitating goal setting for the team
- Conducting performance evaluations and associated merit compensation allocations.
- Policy, process, and procedure dissemination
- Staffing, workload planning/forecasting and time charge approvals
- QMS process development and maintenance
- Development and implementation of vision, strategies, and discipline when applicable
Basic Qualifications:Β
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or STEM field
- 12 years minimum of industry experience in one or more areas of: Safety and Mission Assurance; Systems, Electrical, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering; Production / Manufacturing; and / or Quality Engineering / Assurance
- The ability to obtain Top Secret/SCI clearance
- Experience leading / managing a department, function, or team
- Familiarity with ISO 9001/AS9100 Quality Management Systems
- Experience with a Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action System (FRACAS)
- Excellent written and verbal interpersonal, communication, leadership, and mentoring skills and confidence to brief upper management on a regular basis
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active Top Secret / SCI clearance
- Experience working as a Flight / Mission Assurance Manager on a NASA and / or DoD program.
- Aerospace experience, in particular working on satellites, payloads, launch vehicles and / or other space flight hardware
- Familiar with TIPQA, Windchill and / or Costpoint
- Familiar with Earned Value Management (EVM)
- Familiar with risk assessment and mitigation
