Northrop Grumman is seeking a Mechanical Intern to join the Gilbert Flight Mechanical Engineering group which is comprised of four disciplines: Mechanical Systems/Design, Structural Analysis, Thermal, and Propulsion. The intern will be placed into one of the four disciplines for the duration of the internship.
The qualified candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Tactical Space Systems Division.
Basic Qualifications
A candidate must meet ALL of the below criteria. The candidate must:
Be a student who is enrolled full-time and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college/university and will be enrolled full time in Fall 2025.
Be majoring in or having majored in a Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related.
Be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for at least 10 weeks during summer 2025.
Be able to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite)
Preferred Qualifications for all four disciplines:
- Demonstrated leadership experience, preferably on university sponsored design projects or clubs.
- Minimum overall GPA of 3.7
- Excellent Communication skills
Preferred Qualifications for Mechanical Systems/Design:
- 3D CAD model-based software (specifically Creo Parametric)
- Engineering drawings with GD&T in 2D and 3D MBD’s
- Tolerance stack analysis
- 3D printing design
Preferred Qualifications for Structural Analysis:
- Spacecraft or subsystem static/dynamic testing
- MATLAB and FEMAP
Preferred Qualifications for Thermal:
- Radiation and conduction heat transfer
- Spacecraft orbital dynamics
- Experience working with thermal vacuum test equipment (thermocouples, kapton heaters, cold plates, etc.)
- Thermal Desktop & SINDA or equivalent spacecraft thermal analysis tools
Preferred Qualifications for Propulsion:
- Experience with propulsion systems, bipropellant or cryogenic systems
- MATLAB other analysis tools
NGB - Technical
Intern Pay Range:
Bachelor’s: $21.75 to $26.75 per hour
Master’s: $31.50 to $33.25 per hour
At Northrop Grumman, our internship pay rates are standardized and take into account three main factors: the anticipated graduation date of the individual, the cost of labor of the geographic location, and whether the internship is considered technical or administrative.
