Are you interested in defining possible? Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Mechanical Engineer/Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our team!
This position will primarily be located in Chantilly, VA and will support the SIGINT Technology Center's (STC). The STC is where technology and teamwork come together to meet the unique needs of the Intelligence Community and Department of Defense. The STC is comprised of multiple mission-focused programs with projects ranging from Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) SIGINT payload and data link development to OCONUS/CONUS mission/maintenance support. STC tasks include system design, engineering development, system integration, hands-on build and test, field operations and maintenance, training, and production.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Support design, integration, test, and document operations of hardware components and high-level systems
- Support operations and maintenance of fielded SIGINT systems
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary engineering team to upgrade and improve developmental and fielded systems to maximize uptime and capabilities
- Interface and collaborate with customers, end users, operators, and Field Service Representatives
Basic Qualifications for Mechanical Engineer:
- Must have a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or an equivalent STEM related discipline.
- Minimum of 2 Years of experience with a bachelor's degree; Minimum of 0 Years with master's degree; Minimum of 0 Years experience with PhD
- Ability to obtain a Security Clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite)
- Experience with design modeling and drawing efforts using 3-D modeling tools
- Experience and willingness to be hands on during hardware assembly, testing and integration
- Strong interdisciplinary problem-solving skills, demonstrated by frequent and successful application of technical standards, theories, concepts, and techniques

- Ability to obtain a Security Clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite)
- Experience with design modeling and drawing efforts using 3-D modeling tools
- Experience and willingness to be hands on during hardware assembly, testing and integration
- Strong interdisciplinary problem-solving skills, demonstrated by frequent and successful application of technical standards, theories, concepts, and techniques
Preferred Qualifications for both levels:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
- A background in test, design, and integration
- Experience with SolidWorks CAD Software
- Experience with CAD configuration management
- Experience with FEA and thermal analysis software and methods
- Experience creating designs using machined steel and aluminum, sheet metal, welded fixtures, additive manufacturing/composites components and assemblies
- Experience with packaging custom electronic equipment and COTS components into enclosures including assisting in designing printed circuit boards and circuit card assemblies
- Experience working in a machine shop
- Experience with model-based definition (MBD)
- Experience working in a multidiscipline team (EE, SW, SE)
- Active Security Clearance, TS/SCI
- Experience in operations and maintenance of SIGINT/EW systems and workflows

Salary Range: $81,300.00 - $121,900.00Salary Range 2: $100,300.00 - $150,500.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
