We are looking for you to join our team as a Systems Engineering Manager 2 based out of San Diego, CA. As a Systems Engineering Manager 2 at Northrop Grumman, you will have a challenging and rewarding opportunity to be a part of our Enterprise-wide digital transformation. Using Model-based Engineering, DevSecOps and Agile practices we continue to evolve how we deliver critical national defense products and capabilities for the warfighter. What You'll Get to Do:
The Functional manager will lead a team of approximately 10-15 engineers working within the San Diego Advanced Communications OU. The successful candidate will lead direct report employees based on organizational goals, program activity, and company policies. Specific responsibilities include coordinating with programs for staffing, recruiting, training, preparing and delivering performance reviews to employees, evaluating/recommending employees for promotions, evaluating salaries and coordinating with Human Resources on potential adjustments, assisting employees in preparing performance goals, providing career guidance to employees and counseling employees on their performance as necessary as well as working to refine the system development process and tools utilized for program excellence and design assurance. Also, the manager is responsible for periodic review and update of SEIT (Systems Engineering Integration and Test) process documents and support of AS9100 and CMMI audits. Program Execution and Engineering Excellence are our driving forces.
The qualified candidate shall also be a technical performer, working approximately 80% directly on programs within our OU, representing our Engineering and Sciences organization. Experience with mentoring and people management is highly desirable.
The Manager will support and be accountable for goals including:
- Cultivate an inclusive and engaging workplace. Ensure employees’ work life balance is appropriate.
- Workforce: maintain staff adequate to execute to program plans, as well as for strategic growth. Plan assignments and fill program needs to ensure success, but which also offer growth to the individuals performing the work.
- Performance management: on an ongoing basis engage with staff to identify growth opportunities, deficiencies, appropriate training, etc. Execute to the Enterprise review cycle. Manage compensation and career progression
- Create and maintain forward-looking processes which align to strategic goals.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in STEM with 8 years of relevant experience in the field of Systems Engineering and/or System Integration and Test; or 6 years of relevant experience in the field of Systems Engineering and/or System Integration and Test with a Masters (MS) degree.
- Candidate must have excellent written and communication skills and be able to work independently and within groups.
- Ability to facilitate/mediate in conflict resolution matters.
- Previous experience as a functional manager or technical team leader.
- Candidate must have an advanced level of understanding of systems integration and test.
- Candidate must have knowledge of engineering process, be proficient in process development as well as functional organization aspects.
- Candidate must have familiarity with the other Engineering disciplines
- Candidate must be a US citizen
- Clearance: Candidate must be a US citizen and currently have, and be able to maintain an active/current U.S. Government DOD Secret Clearance or higher.
Preferred Qualifications:
- MS in Computer Engineering, or a related STEM field, with 10 or more years of technical experience and direct management of engineers.
- Candidate should have hands on experience with DoD Communications Systems.
- Candidate should have direct supervisory experience and/or significant team leadership (IPT lead).
- Current direct program duties within the Advanced Comms OU.
- Familiarity with EVMS Reporting and CAM responsibilities.
- Familiarity with other organizational functions such as supply chain, procurement, logistics, and mission assurance.
- DOD Secret and SAR highly preferred.
- Knowledge of F-35 and F-22 communications systems and associated waveforms.
