LEAD FACILITIES ENGINEER

As a member of the critical infrastructure team, you will help design, build, activate and maintain some of the world’s most technically advanced manufacturing facilities. You will be able to operate with autonomy to solve diverse and complex problems, excel at managing multiple projects at a time and work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. As a Lead Facilities Engineer, you will manage a team of internal technicians focused on world class construction, repairs and maintenance of our factories and buildings. This team will fix and repair items internally on campus, ranging from items as small as drywall and repair to full on construction projects. The person fit for this role will succeed in bringing a first principals approach to the facilities infrastructure organization, lead and mentor people well and oversee ongoing operations and maintenance of facilities, equipment, and utilities. This will involve corrective, preventive and predictive maintenance techniques as well as operational and design feedback for maintaining and improving all systems at SpaceX's Hawthorne production facility. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and mentor a team of technicians focused on the development, commissioning, and maintenance of SpaceX launch site facilities
  • Develop and train direct reports to enable extreme ownership and empowered decision making, including building and constructing projects on campus
  • Coordinate all phases of site development projects, and partner with other groups on site to maximize productivity and organize schedules to fit operations
  • Prepare and coordinate capital expenditure processes, including reviews, approvals and execution of site capital and repair projects ensuring technical specifications, budget, and deadlines are met
  • Communicate and deliver building/maintenance activities and schedule to personnel, subcontractors and material suppliers to effectively and efficiently execute targeted deadlines
  • Manage external contractors, including proposal requests, development of specifications, and supplier selection
  • Provide technical engineering support/information to ensure construction/maintenance complies with all standards, codes, and specifications
  • Develop cost estimates, material requisitions, plans, and specifications for multiple small and large multidiscipline projects
  • Be proactive and forward thinking with respect to team growth and department/company strategy

  BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
  • 2+ years of engineering experience with facilities engineering, construction, aerospace, aviation, automotive, or other manufacturing environment
  • 1+ years of prior leadership experience leading teams, projects or people

 PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong desire to mentor and develop employees
  • 2+ years of experience in facility maintenance (electrical, HVAC, or structural) and facility construction (buildings, roads, drainage, foundations, etc.)
  • Ability to perform and manage technically complex projects using independent judgement and personal initiative
  • Demonstrated ability in reading/understanding/creating blueprints and technical manuals and reports
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments
  • Ability to produce drawings for welders and machine shop fabrication in AutoCAD
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Experience operating boom lifts, man lifts, fork lifts, and cranes
  • Proficient skill level using Microsoft Office suite

 ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This is not a remote or hybrid position and will require relocation if not already local to the Hawthorne, CA area.
  • Position occasionally requires the ability to work extended hours and weekends when needed.
  • Ability to stand, crawl, stoop, and push or lift up to 30 lbs. unassisted.
  • Ability to operate forklifts, scissor lifts, and boom lifts when needed.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:    
    
Pay range:    
Lead: $125,000.00 - $175,000.00/per year    

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
