Job description

a.i. solutions is seeking a motivated Avionics Engineer to join the team supporting the NASA Launch Service Program at Kennedy Space Center. The Avionics Engineer will be assigned to the Vehicle Engineering and Analysis (VE&A) department performing tasks related to commercial launch vehicle systems and supporting our NASA customer. The individual will ensure that NASA maintains insight into the launch vehicle capabilities, perform technical assessments, and exercise approval authority on all applicable deliverables/analyses. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to embrace the a.i. solutions mission and work to continually exceed the expectations of our customers. 

Essential Roles, Responsibilities and Skills:

  • Provide insight into launch vehicle avionics systems throughout product lifecycle, including production, test, integration, flight, and maintenance/refurbishment, as applicable
  • Lead technical assessments of component, system design, test sequence changes, nonconformances, risks, and test or flight anomalies, coordinating with other engineering disciplines as necessary
  • Participate in launch vehicle design reviews, test plan reviews, hardware testing, and assessments of assigned hardware
  • Provide insight and evaluation of hardware during vehicle system testing
  • Support and/or present technical assessments or analysis results at Launch Vehicle mission reviews and Engineering Review Boards
  • Act as primary liaison between the NASA customer and the launch vehicle provider
  • Perform post-flight data reviews and support resolution of any identified issues
  • Provide certification support for new launch service providers/launch vehicles
  • Support process improvement activities to advance team efficiency
  • Ability to quickly connect in-person and in writing, and to actively listen and perceive the needs, values or opinions of others
  • Sharp analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks effectively
  • Ability to work independently without supervision, and as part of a team
  • Enthusiastic, self-starter who demonstrates a desire for continuous learning
  • Travel, as required

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering or related technical field
  • 5+ years of experience with avionics hardware systems and manufacturing/production processes or relevant support
  • Knowledge of life cycle activities involving electrical/avionics systems
  • Experience with Python, MATLAB, and Microsoft suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
  • Obtain successful completion of a government background check
  • U.S. Citizenship

Desired Background:

  • Knowledge of commercial launch vehicle providers
  • Experience with Acceptance and Qualification Testing methodologies and philosophies
  • Experience with launch operations and console support
  • Demonstrated leadership accomplishments, both professionally and personally
  • Proactive in identifying and addressing challenges to include innovations that result in positive organizational impact
