Position Summary

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems designs, builds and delivers space, defense and aviation-related systems to customers around the world. Our products include launch vehicles, propulsion systems, missile products, subsystems and defense electronics, precision weapons, armament systems and ammunition, satellites and space components and services, and advanced aerospace structures.

The Production Manager 3 Oversee and leads all operational aspects of the Medium Caliber Ammunition Value Stream or Commercial Powder Value Stream located at New River Energetics in Radford Virginia.

Essential Functions

  • Manages the production of the Medium Caliber Ammunition Value Stream or the Commercial Powder Value Stream.   
  • Develops and manages the Operations budget.
  • Determines staffing levels for Operations.
  • Provides direct supervision of area management.  Responsible for the supervision of union-represented employees and all disciplinary actions.
  • Responsible for capital improvement projects funding requests and management.
  • Responsible for vehicle, equipment, and building maintenance and management.
  • Responsible for achieving production levels to meet customer requirements.
  • Responsible for the safety of all personnel in the Operations department.  
  • Be an advocate for, and strictly follow, all NRE safety, quality, environmental, and production rules and procedures.
  • Identify and grow strong people managers and future leaders.
  • Actively support an environment of employee engagement and inclusion.

Physical Requirements to Perform Essential Functions

  • Stand, walk, sit, and climb steps regularly.

Education or Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree In a relevant field with 8+ years of experience OR a Master’s Degree in a relevant field with 6+ years of experience OR 12 years of experience in a relevant/management capacity .
  • Operations experience in a chemical and explosives manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge, understanding and application of Hazardous Operations Safety Standard.
  • Knowledge, understanding and participation in Plant Process Control Board for explosive manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with development and execution of budgets.
  • Knowledge and understanding of manufacturing planning schedules and staffing.
  • Experience in cost reduction planning and execution.
  • Direct management experience of explosive transportation.
  • Proven decision-making experience in high rate, explosive manufacturing environment.
  • Experience developing relationships with Customers and Suppliers preferred.

Other Job Qualifications

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to obtain clearance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms and Explosives as an Employee Possessor.
  • Must pass RFAAP badging requirements, including background check and drug screening.

Salary Range: $121,300.00 - $181,900.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
