Job description
As a team, we’ve launched five satellites into orbit, signed ten commercial deals worth over $1 billion in revenue, raised over $750 million from top global investors, and recruited a team of over 400 world-class engineers. We all work out of our (legendary) San Francisco office, which was once used to build ships during the World Wars.
Our satellites, which operate from geostationary orbit (GEO), weigh only 400 kg and utilize a proprietary software-defined radio payload. Each satellite can connect over two million people, and we’re very excited for the impact we’ll soon have in the Philippines, Peru, Mexico, and more!
Backed by substantial funding and a passionate, collaborative team, we offer a rewarding work environment where you'll learn and make a significant impact, no matter where you are in your career.
PCB Layout Team Lead
As the Team Lead for the PCB Layout Engineering Team you will play a critical role in building and leading a team of PCB Engineers and Librarians. You’ll support the team in pushing the boundary of what is possible in a geo-synchronous spacecraft design and enable performance in space that has not been realized to date.
Role
- Plan short-term team activities, including resource allocation, task assignments, and progress tracking.
- Drive long-term strategic planning, such as defining and improving processes, training on technical standards, and selecting/maintaining design tools.
- Build and implement processes for PCB part libraries, ensuring consistency and scalability.
- Establish and enforce design processes that align with fabrication (DFM) requirements and best practices.
- Identify opportunities for automation within the PCB layout process, including developing and implementing scripts and tools to improve efficiency.
- Serve as a technical contributor by owning PCB layout responsibilities for projects.
- Collaborate with design engineers to optimize the end-to-end development process.
- Partner with manufacturing engineers and suppliers to ensure designs are buildable, reliable, and adhere to best practices.
- Manage and grow the team, including hiring, onboarding, and professional development.
- Conduct regular one-on-ones, provide performance feedback, and manage annual performance reviews and bonuses.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience in PCB layout and design.
- 2+ years of experience in people management, including leading teams or projects.
- Proven experience building and implementing processes, such as parts library management or ensuring designs meet DFM requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement scripting or automation tools to improve efficiency.
Bonus
- Strong knowledge of IPC 2221A, IPC 6012, IPC 6013, and IPC 7351 standards.
- Deep understanding of PCB fabrication processes, limitations, design rules, and industry best practices.
- Proficiency with CAD tools, including Altium.
- Familiarity with Arena or other PLM tools.
