Operations Training Curriculum Designer/Instructor (Engineer Satellite Systems)

Northrop Grumman Tactical Space Systems – Integrated Operations directorate is looking for Operations Training Curriculum Designer/Instructor to join the Integrated Operations Training Department team. Curriculum Instructors will conduct mission and program specific real time spacecraft and satellite flight operations during readiness, execution and evaluation phases.  They will develop detailed plans and procedures to provide maximum mission support in areas such as orbit dynamics, satellite performance analysis, command and control of on-orbit satellites.  Instructors also provide technical direction for on-orbit mission support, plans for critical vehicle malfunctions and recommend alternate operating techniques to continue maximum mission support.  They support failure analysis and anomaly resolution during on orbit activities.

As a curriculum designer they will create, manage, and maintain training products to be delivered to customers in support of mission operations.  The selected candidate will be required to design and develop training material to support automated scenarios, mission exercises and certification check rides for the customer and internal operations personnel. Other responsibilities include working with the Mission/Systems Leads to identify training needs and develop training plans and curriculum such as reference guides and evaluation tools.  They will work with mission operations personnel to ensure training curriculum and scenarios accurately represent current operational documentation used during on-orbit checkout and commissioning of satellites as well as during execution of primary mission(s).

Applicants may be asked to support multiple programs to ensure standardization across the spectrum of missions the Integrated Operations Training Department manages. Candidates will work with Training Leads and Deputy Training Leads to ensure curriculum is developed and delivered in accordance with contract requirements and timelines.

Product deliveries include:  Lesson Plans, PowerPoint Presentations, Training Videos, Hands-on Training Scenarios, Test/Quizzes, Student Guides, Training Plans, and other training material as necessary to support contractual training requirements.

Specific experience and responsibilities shall include:

  • On-Console Satellite Command and Control
  • Satellite Vehicle telemetry analysis
  • Contingency operations procedures
  • Training material development IAW Instructional System Design processes
  • Training delivery to customers in support of instructor led training events
  • Training simulators/systems operations in support of training activities
  • Ground System anomaly troubleshooting and resolution experience
  • Rendezvous and Proximity Operations (RPO) experience
  • RPO Mission Planning and Orbital Analysis Experience
  • Experience w/ MS Office Suite products

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Education or related field (Equivalent experience in lieu of a degree may be considered)
  • Clearance level: Top Secret SSBI / SCI eligible required at time of application
  • Minimum of 8 years of Operations/Training experience
  • U.S. citizen

Preferred Qualifications:

  • STEM bachelor's degree
  • Active TS/SCI clearance
  • Web/video based training development experience
  • Lesson plan and test/quiz (original work) development experience within DoD programs
  • Simulation/scenario development experience
  • Experience utilizing training development tools such as Camtasia, Adobe Captivate, or Articulate Storyline 3
  • Ability to conduct a range of modeling, simulation, and analysis in orbital maneuvers and orbit estimation
  • Expertise in technical disciplines such as orbital propagation and perturbations, orbit estimation, orbital maneuvers, modeling, simulation, and analysis
  • Familiarity with astrodynamics tools, including FreeFlyer, System Tool Kit (STK), NASA General Mission Analysis Tool (GMAT), and Orbit Determination Toolbox (ODTBX)
  • Advanced Orbital Mechanics knowledge and experience
  • Experience with agile process / scrum
  • Experience with JIRA

Salary Range: $124,000.00 - $177,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
