Job description
As a team, we’ve launched five satellites into orbit, signed ten commercial deals worth over $1 billion in revenue, raised over $750 million from top global investors, and recruited a team of over 400 world-class engineers. We all work out of our (legendary) San Francisco office, which was once used to build ships during the World Wars.
Our satellites, which operate from geostationary orbit (GEO), weigh only 400 kg and utilize a proprietary software-defined radio payload. Each satellite can connect over two million people, and we’re very excited for the impact we’ll soon have in the Philippines, Peru, Mexico, and more!
Backed by substantial funding and a passionate, collaborative team, we offer a rewarding work environment where you'll learn and make a significant impact, no matter where you are in your career.
Electronics Component Engineer
As a Component Engineer at Astranis, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality, reliability, and suitability of the parts and components used in our satellite systems. This role requires an in-depth understanding of part construction, the ability to identify potential quality or reliability risks, and the expertise to define and implement screening tests to expose and address these risks effectively.
Role
- Dive into part construction to identify quality and reliability risks, ensuring components meet mission-critical standards.
- Collaborate with design engineers to guide component selection during the design process, ensuring reliability and compliance with industry standards.
- Plan, execute, and oversee screening tests and manufacturing tests for component validation and risk mitigation.
- Review bills of materials (BOMs) for new designs to ensure the use of reliable, compliant components.
- Identify, track, and communicate part change notifications (PCNs) and manage new part requests.
- Execute dimensional and destructive analysis on high-risk components to assess quality and failure modes.
- Interface with supply chain, design, and manufacturing teams to address component-related challenges.
- Engage external third parties, such as component manufacturers and test labs, for outsourced work, data reviews, and testing.
- Provide support for EEE part reliability issues and risk mitigation, ensuring timely resolution.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in electrical design, including components, circuits, PCBs, or electronic assemblies.
- Familiarity with JEDEC, AEC-Q and MIL component standards
Bonus
- Experience in supply chain, purchasing, or manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes and testing methodologies for electronic components.
- Proficiency in non-destructive and destructive lab analysis techniques.
- Hands-on experience with soldering and rework.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
