We have an opening for a either a Principal Systems Engineer or a Senior Principal Systems Engineer to join our talented team. We are seeking a team member who wants to solve interesting, complex problems to help protect our nation. We are a trusted mission payload and ground system provider with extensive experience providing end-to-end mission solutions from concept through operations and support. The team you will support is located at our Space Park campus in Redondo Beach, CA.

What you’ll get to do?

As a Systems Engineer on this team, you will support a very fast-moving team to help design, model, and develop the ground system for the Space Development Agency’s (SDA) low earth orbit constellation for SDA’s Sorcerer constellation. SDA Sorcerer is part of an ambitious space architecture to bring next-generation communications capabilities to the warfighter around the globe. SDA’s vision is to deliver a minimum viable product on time, every two years to the warfighter by employing spiral development methods. This program builds upon existing SDA Transport Layer capabilities to provide greater coverage and new capabilities to the established SV network for the DoD. In this role, you will be interacting with the customer, other stakeholders, and leadership to define and maintain the technical baseline. Ultimately, it is your responsibility to drive the program through maturity and milestones to achieve the mission and overall vision. Core Responsibilities:

• Lead Ground/C2 Segment support to planning and execution for System Integration milestone events (e.g., SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, FAT)
• Ensure system technical compliance with the program Statement of Work (SOW) and system requirements
• Drive/lead collection, definition, and distillation of requirements, interfaces, architecture & functionality for various GFX elements and external interfaces/systems
• Ensure vertical and horizontal technical integration throughout the product teams and program verification and validation efforts
• Drive/lead Ground/Command and Control (C2) Segment integration, test, and verification planning and execution
• Manage risk and opportunity and the production of core systems engineering work products and track the work products and associated program dependencies in the program schedule
• Lead integrated ground architecture and CONOPs definition
• Support development of System activation & checkout plans, procedures
• Support ground segment Cybersecurity certification activities
• Support System launch & execution
• Support development of on-orbit system operations CONOPs, plans, procedures, roles & responsibilities, and staffing
• Coordinate between the System Architect, Chief Engineer, Product Team Lead(s), SEIT lead, and customer to ensure the integrity and executability of the program technical baseline

This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.

 Basic Qualifications:

• Principal Systems Engineer: Bachelor's degree in STEM with 5 years of relevant experience; Master's degree in STEM with 3 years of relevant experience; PhD with 1 year of relevant experience
• Senior Principal Systems Engineer: Bachelor's degree in STEM with 8 years of relevant experience; Master's degree in STEM with 6 years of relevant experience; PhD with 4 years of relevant experience
• Active Secret Clearance required at the time of application
• Experience in development, integration, testing and operation of satellite ground systems
• Experience in rapid system development/deployment and agile methodologies for system capability deployment, testing, and verification
• Experience in systems development, integration, and test
• Working knowledge of systems engineering principles and processes
• Working knowledge of Systems Architecture
• Working knowledge of MBSE (CAMEO, Sysml, UML, DODAF)
• Working knowledge of Requirements and Verification & Validation Activities

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Agile development
• Working knowledge of Ground Software development and operations of satellite systems
• Experience developing ground SW tools for operating satellite systems
• Working knowledge of space missions and CONOPS design
• Working knowledge of Systems Architecture in the Ground Domain
• Effectively communicate and present to project and program management, other technical managers and customers
• Experience mission analysis/simulation tools (i.e. STK, GMAT, Freeflyer)
• Familiarity with satellite constellation operations
• On-orbit, real-time satellite operation experience
• TS/SCI

Salary Range: $110,300.00 - $165,500.00Salary Range 2: $137,400.00 - $206,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
