Strategic Space Systems Division (SSSD) is an industry-leading provider of prime satellite and payload capabilities and directed energy and electronics solutions for national security, military, and civil customers. SSSD has an opening for a Mechanical Technician 2 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be in Redondo Beach, California.
Performs a variety of duties assisting mechanical engineers in the development, assembly and fabrication of parts and subassemblies of space hardware. Fabricates, and assembles new or modified mechanical components or assemblies. Specifically for this position the technician will perform precision assemble of micro hardware, precision assembly with tweezers, and work with a microscope for much of the time. Individual must be able to demonstrate to high attention to detail and spot material defects under magnification. Works with chemicals and strict procedures for material processing. This position may be required to perform other duties as assigned. Must be willing to work any shift and extended work weeks.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
Basic Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent and 2 years additional education and/or related experience.
- US Citizenship required
- Ability to work with small components and a microscope for extended periods of time
- High attention to detail to spot material or surface defects
- Willing to work any shift and cover extended work weeks as required
- Hands-on knowledge and experience with the use of a variety of hand tools
- Willing to enroll in health monitoring program for working with hazardous material (Beryllium monitoring and respirator monitoring)
- Ability to work well with others in a high stress environment
- Ability to obtain security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- AA degree or other two-year technical degree
- Demonstrate technical knowledge in manufacturing operations and procedures as it pertains to space hardware
- Familiar with Northrop Grumman Corporation processes
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office to supplement work order and other data requirements
- Comprehension with reading drawings, process specification, and work order instructions
- Experience working in clean or FOD free environments
- Proficient in use of precision measuring instruments
