Job Description
As Safety Engineer intern you will take part in the implementation of best practices in safety engineering.
Responsibilities
Tasks and missions
As a Safety Engineering Intern, you will join the Safety & Regulatory team, and your tasks will include several activities within the following areas:
Risk and Hazard Analysis
- Perform detailed risk assessments using methodologies such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP), and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA).
- Identify potential system hazards, failure modes, and their causes and consequences, and propose mitigation strategies to reduce or eliminate identified risks
Development and Implementation of Safety Plans
- Assist in creating and refining safety plans for new and existing products, ensuring alignment with relevant industry safety standards.
- Define safety goals, allocate safety requirements to system components, and support their validation.
Safety Testing and Validation
- Participate in designing and executing safety validation tests, both in controlled environments (e.g., lab simulations) and in operational settings.
- Analyze test results to verify the effectiveness of safety measures and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Support root cause analysis in case of test failures and suggest improvements.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with engineering teams (mechanical, software, electrical, testing, etc.) to ensure safety requirements are integrated into the design process.
- Liaise with quality assurance and production teams to implement safety improvements during manufacturing.
- Support the safety team in interfacing with customers and regulatory bodies (during project reviews and safety audits, preparation of safety reports and technical documentation).
Preferred experience and skills
Education:
Final-year student pursuing a degree in Engineering, with a focus on Safety Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field
Technical skills:
Knowledge of safety standards (e.g., ISO 26262, IEC 61508, nasa-std-8719), familiarity with risk analysis methods and tools (FMEA, HAZOP, etc.)
Soft skills:
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a team
Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
