TECHNICAL WRITER (FALCON PLANNING)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interpret engineering documentation to create accurate technician-oriented work instructions that fully meet design intent
  • Collaborate with hardware and process owners (engineering subject matter experts) to translate technical/engineering projects into tangible production improvements.
  • Scope engineering master development cycles and project future planning releases.
  • Prioritize adherence to safety requirements related to hazardous operations and generate leading indicators.
  • Contribute to the standardization of source documents owned by Falcon teams.
  • Maximize process and instruction efficiency through collaborative efforts between engineering and shop floor teams.
  • Contribute to the realization of engineering projects, including but not limited to: technical, training, workflow development, graphic design, web content design.
  • Work with documents within version control software and documentation release systems to preserve and manage content integrity and configuration.
  • Manage requirement source tracking and associated change scope to ensure 100% accurate incorporation of requirements per mission.
  • Manage flight hardware configuration applicability across source documents owned by Falcon teams.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or 4+ years of professional technical writing experience in an aerospace, manufacturing, or production environment

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, physics, aerospace engineering, or other engineering discipline
  • Experience reading technical drawings and schematics
  • Familiarity with mechanical processes in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience converting engineering/technical information into various communication formats intended for a variety of audiences and ability levels
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate with a diverse range of counterparts in engineering, production, and management
  • Strong analytical, project management, computer, communication, and writing skills (typing, spelling, grammar, etc.)
  • Technical writing experience in manufacturing or aviation industries
  • Experience with creation and editing 2D and 3D graphics
  • Ability to quickly learn, absorb, and apply dynamic technical content to further develop production processes
  • Ability to work under deadlines and to deliver results during changes in strategic direction

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be willing to occasionally work extended hours and weekends as needed
  • Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral
  • Willing to support as needed, nights and weekends
  • Comfortable working in a high-stress environment balancing several projects at any given time and the flexibility to adjust for abrupt changes in strategic direction
  • Occasional travel may be required based on specific project tasks

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:

Technical Writer/Level I: $75,000.00 - $95,000.00/per year

Technical Writer/Level II: $90,000.00 - $115,000.00/per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan. You may also accrue 3 weeks of paid vacation and will be eligible for 10 or more paid holidays per year. Exempt employees are eligible for 5 days of sick leave per year.

ITAR REQUIREMENTS:

  • To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
