Senior Systems Engineer

a.i. solutions is currently seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to support the Ground Systems and Mission Operations-3 (GSMO-3) program at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, MD. The Senior Systems Engineer will design and deploy technical solutions for satellite mission services, focusing on scalable technologies in a mission-critical environment. This role involves exploring existing systems for reuse, guiding the team in designing new systems, and utilizing scalable Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Cloud-based technologies. The Senior Systems Engineer will collaborate with systems and network engineers, IT Security, mission leaders, and flight operations engineers to design, plan, and develop solutions that meet operational and compliance requirements. Additionally, the role will include supporting the maintenance, configuration, and installation of systems, setting standards for system design and configurations, and ensuring product deliverables align with operational needs, compliance, and resiliency improvements. The Senior Systems Engineer will play a key role in ensuring stability, security, and high availability of the network computing environment in support of critical mission operations.

Essential Roles & Responsibilities:

• Work as part of the engineering team, providing excellent customer service and acting as the central point of contact for all Linux-related activities while seeking continuous improvements.
• Provide technical expertise and guidance in system design, installation, configuration, troubleshooting, capacity planning, tuning, and problem resolution, while maintaining operational standards.
• Build, deploy, manage, and maintain new and existing infrastructure systems, monitor data center resources, and implement backup and redundancy strategies.
• Collaborate with the engineering team to define policies, procedures, and technical documentation, and lead the ongoing development of automation strategies while ensuring security across all infrastructure systems.
• Analyze, configure, install, upgrade, troubleshoot, patch, compile, secure, and repair Linux servers in a heterogeneous environment, taking responsibility for all operations related to ensuring their security and any proactive steps to safeguard them.
• Engage with management and stakeholders, providing updates on requirements, status, activity summaries, and achievements.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Technology, Computer Science or related field and at least 7 years of industry experience.
• Strong RHEL/Linux/Unix background.
• Scripting experience (Shell/Perl/Python, or related language).
• Strong understanding of network protocols and principles (OSI network layers, TCP/IP).
• Experience with designing/managing virtual infrastructures (VMWare/Nutanix/Hyper-V).
• Experience with private-cloud backup and recovery.

Desired Background:

• Experience with AWS technologies such as S3, EMR/EC2, and Cloudwatch.
• Configuration Management experience using Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
• Familiar with container software tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with security tools such as Splunk, BigFix, and Forescout.
• Experience with database management tools such MSSQL, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.
