Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is currently seeking a Manager NDT Engineering 2 for our Elkton, Maryland location.
The Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems and Controls (PS&C) location in Elkton, Maryland began solid-propellant rocket operations in 1948. Today, the Elkton PS&C facility designs, develops, and produces solid-propellant propulsion and ordnance systems in programs professionally managed for a wide variety of Government and commercial customers. The facility also serves as the hub for offsite engineering and test facilities in Ronkonkoma, NY, Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
Elkton, Maryland is located on the Upper Chesapeake Bay, midway between Philadelphia and Baltimore. Responsibilities
- Maintain a compliant NDT certification process in accordance with NAS 410 and customer requirements
- Maintain compliance to COMAR with respect to X-ray operations and equipment
- Responsible for the recruitment, competence and training of NDT staff including making sure that staff stay abreast with industry best practice and that training records are kept up to date.
- Manage NDT data retention
- Oversee NDT equipment operation, maintenance and replacement including X-ray machines, radiation monitoring equipment, flaw detectors, UT transducers, penetrant inspection equipment and tooling
- Provide performance reviews and periodic feedback for all direct reports
- Assist in meeting Safety, Quality, Schedule and Cost objectives for the NDT team
- Collaborate and coordinate with other functional managers, design teams, program managers, Quality, engineers, regulatory agencies, suppliers and site leadership to meet business and program objectives
- Manage the review and approval of NDT requirements for manufacturing planning, purchase orders and engineering drawings/specifications to ensure NDT requirements and customer requirements are met
- Develop, collect and analyze metrics
- Support customer proposals by providing technical, budget and scope information as it pertains to the proposal process
- Ensure the Quality Management system is followed
- Support the internal and external audit process, ensuring that appropriate resources are available. Will also attend/participate as required
- Responsible for proactive resource management, both staffing and equipment, to mitigate production schedule risks and support customer requirements while maintaining efficient operations
- Support a work environment characterized by employee involvement and participative management to encourage the highest level of employee commitment and cooperation by fostering a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement
- Develop and manage an annual budget for the NDT team
Success in this role will require sound judgment, innovative thinking and excellent interpersonal/management skills to plan, motivate and accomplish goals through your staff.
Basic Qualifications:
- Must have 12 years of experience in manufacturing and NDT. Will consider those with a related Associate degree with a minimum 10 years of experience, a related Bachelor’s degree with a minimum 8 years, or a related Masters degree and 6 years related experience. Experience can be commercial or military or a combination of both.
- Familiarity with AS9100, NADCAP, NAS 410 and other Quality / NDT auditing / accreditation systems
- Must have the skills and knowledge to interpret codes, standards, and other contractual documents that control NDT method(s)
- Ability to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance, which U.S. Citizenship is required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Aerospace or aviation experience strongly desired
- Planning and budgeting experience
- NDT management experience and/or NDT Level 2 or 3 certification in 1 or more NDT methods (Certification will be verified)
- Demonstrated ability to successfully engage at all levels of the organization, from the shop floor to executive leadership, to provide solutions and coach and mentor others in the use of quality principles and practices
- Experience with Supplier Quality and Performance Management
- Demonstrated experience in leading continuous improvement activities
- Demonstrated problems solving skills in a manufacturing and test environment
- Conducting or managing internal and external audits
This position falls under a Federal Explosives License issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for this location. Candidates hired into this role will be required to complete and submit an Employee Possessor Questionnaire to ATF for approval to be a possessor.
Salary Range: $123,400.00 - $185,000.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
