Maxar is looking to add an Electronics Design Engineer to our team to support a customer who has a fast-paced and exciting mission within the Intelligence Community. This position will support specialized communications programs and their associated infrastructure.

The Electronics Design Engineer will work independently and as part of a cross-functional team comprised of technical experts supporting an established and growing Intelligence Community (IC) mission. You will need to quickly understand complex technical concepts, make assessments, and articulate your recommendations to the customer. Previous experience working on-site to support the Department of Defense (DoD) and the IC is highly desirable.

Day-to-Day with your Colleagues:

This is an on-site position, reporting daily to work in Reston, VA.  The Electronics Design Engineer will be asked to provide technical expertise to support a variety of tasks to include, but not limited to:

  • Plan, design, and develop complex, highly reliable electronic systems for sensitive activities.
  • Design and integrate electronic devices, products, software, and components for specific applications, to include AI/ML processing chips and related components.
  • Produce and provide supporting documentation, including user manuals and all design files related to newly developed projects.
  • Recommend design modifications to harden, improve existing capability.
  • Analyze customer needs to determine the costs, capacity, and requirements.
  • Create testing procedures and maintenance for electronic equipment and microelectronic and edge processing components.
  • Inspect electronic systems, instruments, and equipment to ensure they meet applicable regulations and safety standards.
  • Help develop an in-house electronic engineering and printed circuit board capability to include identifying needed hardware, software, tools, and equipment.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must have active TS/SCI security clearance and be willing and able to obtain CI Polygraph.
  • Bachelor’s degree in microelectronics engineering, electronic engineering, or electrical engineering.
  • 5 years of professional experience developing end-to-end technology solutions with microelectronics.

Preferred Skills:

  • At least five years of experience using edge processing microelectronics to design and produce devices for different functions.
  • Experience working on-site at a customer location.
  • Experience working in DOD / IC.
  • Demonstrated experience in using engineering software to develop blueprints and calculate measurements.
  • Ability to design, construct, and integrate prototype devices and components that involve microelectronic mechanical systems.
  • Experience designing & integrating hardware & software electronic devices.
  • Experience performing tests to determine functionality of integrated or designed components.
  • Problem-solving skills to resolve performance issues effectively.
  • Experience in 3D computer-aided design (CAD) modeling tools.
  • Ability to design mechanical concepts, have a pragmatic attitude, and capability to translate concepts into practical designs that meet specified requirements.
  • Familiar with Agile engineering process.
  • Experience in multi-layer PCB design and microelectronic components.
  • Proven background in embedded C or C derived language development for microcontrollers.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of full design lifecycle including specification design, test and documentation.
  • Excellent proficiency in component level fault finding.
  • High/Low temperature electronics design.
  • Precision Soldering.
  • Competent in the design and simulation of analog and digital electronics.
  • Proficient in schematic capture (e.g. Altium) and PCB layout.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, assembly drawings and wire lists.
  • Circuit layout tools; high density PCB layout; test equipment including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, and multimeters.
  • Testing and troubleshooting software, embedded system using C/C++, PCB layout.
  • Low power design (for battery powered devices).
  • Familiar with RF communications and micro-electronic antenna technology
  • Electro-mechanical assembly skills.
  • Use of GITLAB, engineering design and drawings (SolidWorks), MATLAB, or similar engineering tools.
  • Documentation and technical writing skills.

In support of pay transparency at Maxar, we disclose salary ranges on all U.S. job postings.  The successful candidate’s starting pay will fall within the salary range provided below and is determined based on job-related factors, including, but not limited to, the experience, qualifications, knowledge, skills, geographic work location, and market conditions. Candidates with the minimum necessary experience, qualifications, knowledge, and skillsets for the position should not expect to receive the upper end of the pay range.

● The base pay for this position within the Washington, DC metropolitan area is: $96,000.00 - $160,000.00 annually.

For all other states, we use geographic cost of labor as an input to develop market-driven ranges for our roles, and as such, each location where we hire may have a different range.

Additionally, this position is incentive eligible with a target based on contribution, company performance, and/or individual results achieved; the specific incentive plan and target amount will be determined based on the role and breadth of contributions.
