Vast is looking for a Sr Manager of Stress Analysis, reporting to the Sr Director of Structures Design and Analysis, to support the development of the systems that will be required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations.
This will be a full-time, exempt position located in our Long Beach location.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and lead a team of up to 6 individuals including hiring.
- Set standards for stress analysis and documentation in a fast-paced evolving environment
- Expand company capability in analysis through validating and establishing methods and practices
- Create and maintain FEA models of structural components for other teams
- Interface between dynamics/Loads engineering and design engineers to define critical loads and load cases.
- Perform trade studies on structural sizing including both strength and stability requirements and mass and cost optimization
- Mentor design engineers in analysis methods and best practices
- Review and approve drawings of mechanical components and provide feedback
- Work with test engineering to plan and execute structural and dynamic tests, as well as perform associated analyses
Minimum Qualifications:
- B.S. degree in engineering with 8+ years of relevant experience
- Experience in aerospace design and analysis
- Knowledge of mechanical engineering design, analysis, and manufacturing
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Experience in human spaceflight design and analysis.
- Past experience leading teams of analysts.
- Self-motivated with strong multi-tasking, organizational, communication and documentation skills
- Ability to work well in an integrated team including daily interactions with design engineers and manufacturing engineers.
Additional Requirements:
- Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends to support critical mission milestones
