Northrop Grumman Strategic Space Systems is looking for you to join our team as an Embedded Software Engineer / Principal Embedded Software Engineer with the Software Engineering organization based out of Manhattan Beach, CA.
*Please be aware that this position will be contingent upon capturing program award, obtaining customer funding, and holding final clearances prior to start date*
The Software Engineer will develop software which will operate in a resource constrained target environment with soft and hard real time requirements for various flight/space/ground systems. The software will typically implement complex data analysis, data routing, and/or control systems algorithms. Candidate will need familiarity with various processor, memory, and I/O architectures and be able to implement both procedural and object-oriented software in C++. The selected candidate will work with real-time operating systems, such as Linux, and their associated host/development environments and tools.
Additional responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Design, develop, document, test, and debug applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions.
- Conduct multidisciplinary research and collaborate with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product software.
- Determine overall system and user needs; analyze system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops utility programs.
- Ensure software standards are met.
The ideal candidate should have academic and work experience in software engineering and development across the full life cycle for automated test sets/test systems on aerospace programs. Experience working in a process-oriented environment utilizing waterfall, spiral, or agile processes is also desired. The selected candidate should also have strong verbal and written communication skills and be comfortable working on large teams with talented engineers from other engineering disciplines. Must be comfortable working in a lab environment.

This requisition may be filled at either an Embedded Software Engineer level or a Principal Embedded Software Engineer level based on the qualifications listed below.
Basic Qualifications – Embedded Software Engineer:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related STEM degree with 2+ years of software development experience, OR Master’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related STEM degree with 0 years of experience
- Prior work experience with Object-Oriented software design and C++ programming
- Experience executing in a RTOS environment (i.e., RT-Linux, FreeRTOS, VxWorks, GH Integrity)
- Candidate must be able and willing to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret and/or Top Secret security clearance
Basic Qualifications - Principal Embedded Software Engineer:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related STEM degree with 5+ years software development experience, OR Master’s Degree with 3+ years of software development experience, OR Ph.D. with 1+ years of software development experience
- Prior work experience with Object-Oriented software design and C++ programming
- Experience executing in a RTOS environment (i.e., RT-Linux, FreeRTOS, VxWorks, GH Integrity)
- Candidate must be able and willing to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret and/or Top Secret security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active DoD Secret or Top Secret/SCI security clearance
- Experience across the various life cycle phases including software systems architecture development, requirements definition and analysis, OO development, code and unit test, system integration and test
- Experience with lab instruments such as noise and signal generators; logic, spectrum, and network analyzers; and power sources and switches
- Experience with hardware validation and verification of RF, digital or mixed signal devices
