Job description
Duties
- Duties described below are at the highest grade advertised. Duties assigned at lower grade levels will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.
- Generate high quality grids and apply Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to simulate and analyze the performance and operability of complex high-speed air-breathing propulsive flowpaths and vehicles. Verify solution accuracy.
- Post process CFD solutions to evaluate performance metrics, to evaluate flowpath operability, to estimate flight performance, and to build aero-propulsive databases. Develop and applie software to pre- and post-process grids and solutions.
- Prepare technical reports, research papers, and presentations to communicate simulation results in a clear and concise manner.
- Investigate the fundamental physics associated with air-breathing propulsive flowpaths and test facilities and use CFD to design and evaluate new flowpaths and test facility hardware. Use CFD to assist with interpreting ground test data.
- Apply design of experiments/response surface methods to model aero-propulsive databases. Use these methods to understand performance sensitivities, to quantify uncertainties associated with a solution, and to optimize some aspect of the design.
- Serve as a technical monitor on grants, cooperative agreements, contracts, Small Business Innovation Research (SBIRs) and other contractual mechanisms with university and industry partners.
- Work with a team of researchers and collaborate with team members and others to solve challenging problems.
- Foster a culture of engagement, diversity, inclusiveness, excellence and innovation. Champion NASA's commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility to create an environment that promotes a commitment to safety, integrity, and teamwork.
