Northrop Grumman Space Systems is looking for you to join us as Business Development Chief Engineer located in Aurora, CO or Fairfax, VA.

This role will serve as the definitive technical authority for all aspects of engineering on future engineering elements (systems engineering/hardware/software/support/test) by overseeing the development of the technical solution and approach, from conceptual solution through establishment & refinement of the baseline, ensuring that performance requirements are met and remain consistent with the strategy.

  • Responsible for leading and developing the overall Technology Investment Area strategy
  • Lead a multi-disciplinary cross-functional team in the planning and execution of technology strategy supporting the Technology Area
  • Design technology strategy and planning based on business needs, objectives and stakeholder analysis adopting appropriate approaches, methods, facilitation techniques, artifacts and deliverables
  • Explore new and emerging technologies to create a vision of how technology will shape the future captures and invent new, innovative mission solutions
  • Manage the develop and execution of the Technology Investment IRAD portfolio
  • Applies IRADs and technologies internal and external of the BU to technology IRADs and opportunities
  • Support Key Capture Reviews (Deep Dives, SAARR, Black Hats, …. ) and proposal activities
  • Responsible for the communication of Technology strategy to both internal and external stakeholders by designing and creating effective visuals to convey the Thrust strategy
  • Regularly takes a leadership role in providing insight and knowledge transfer to others on internal and external technical solutions to solve complex problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to formally present technical solutions to senior leadership.
  • Provide oversight for system architecture and design development and supporting architecture roles.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) discipline and 16 years of relevant experience; 14 years with master’s degree; 12 years with PhD
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience formally leading engineering teams/and or organizations to achieve a common goal.
  • Must have US Citizenship with an Active DOD Top Secret clearance granted with SCI eligibility, current TS/SCI or re-investigated within last 6 years at time of application
  • Experience working with the U.S. Navy or related programs.
  • Experience with command and control supporting mission objectives.
  • Be able and willing to travel up to 25% as a part of the role.
  • Must have familiarity with leading large technical proposals.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience integrating multiple engineering specialties and stakeholders across multiple Teams and Suppliers
  • Experience leading design, production, and integration of complex systems
  • Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) experience
  • Experience leading the performance of technical tasks on schedule, at cost and achieving all requirements as either a chief engineer or technical lead.
  • Strong understanding and broad application of complex engineering systems (engineering standards, configuration management, material review board, process control, tooling, facilities, software, etc.)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations,
  • Ability to collaborate and achieve consensus when dealing with groups from diverse organizations and backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated experience in making sound decisions in uncertain and difficult situations.
  • Knowledge of space, navy and marine operations, specifically having existing relationships of INS customer(s) and their stakeholder needs.
  • Familiarity with Agile development
  • Demonstrated background of successfully applying NG Systems Engineering Principles and Operating Practices to guide program technical design, development, and deployment of large-scale systems architectures.
  • Strong understanding and broad application of complex engineering systems (engineering standards, configuration management, material review board, process control, tooling, facilities, software, etc.)
  • Ability to collaborate and achieve consensus when dealing with groups from diverse organizations and backgrounds.

Salary Range: $206,900.00 - $310,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
